I was driving 80mph when the limit was 55mph..now that it's 65mph, I drive at 70mph.

The speed limit around here is 65mph. When the highways are busy, we're lucky to maintain 50mph and there is a lot of stop and go (mostly from retarded drivers who floor it and then hit the brakes). If somebody could get us at a constant 55mph, that would be an upgrade.

It's a way to control funding. They monitor the speeds and if the states don't adopt the speed limit or don't enforce it enough then they can cut funding to certain programs.

Think control freaks

To echo most of what people have already said here:

When the speed limit is 35, most people do 40-45
Limit of 45, people do 55
55 = 65-70
65 = 80+

So what exactly is going to change?? People will do 70 instead of 80?

As far as I'm concerned John Warner can impose this anarchy in Virginia all he wants.

Just leave the other 49 states alone.

I'll just stay the fook out of Virginia

Have they thought about the cost of producing all the speed limit posts on the freeways?

That does not make sense, but sure, it will sure cost less than the gas.

With all the money it is going to take to lower the speed limits to 55 in 50 states, it seems like a waste of time and goverment spending. Think of all the things that will have to take place for it to happen, and what will be the total cost to the tax payers when it is all said and done? During peak traffic hours, you are lucky to reach 55. I think they should spend the all that time, money and effort towards public transportation if it is that big of a problem.
