I know many of you have taken this as an opportunity to feel oppresed or to flame someone, but that was ALL he was doing, giving some logical reasons not to mod the car past a point that can't be restored. And he said it in direct manner, qualifying and disclaiming his statements in order for those quick on the gun to try to read his words at face value - which many people chose not to do.
To continue, I can give you many reasons why you should go get a college education. I can also give you a several reasons why not to. I'm sure one of these arguments, why you should get a college education, will have the majority of supporters. These people will believe that the reasons for one outweigh the reasons of the other.

The last time I checked this forum was about people being able to respond to threads whether they agreed or not. So Bieg wants to start a thread where only those that agree with him should respond? Bieg hasn't chosen that route when he's felt compelled to respond on threads dedicated to modding.
As for this being the only thread about not modding, I'm pretty sure I could run a search and find numerous other threads Bieg has started about not modding the car. I also don't think that newbies who are considering modding their S2K are going to be swayed one way or another by Bieg's comments.

Bieg, bravo for posing a provocative thread, and eloquently setting out your position about modifying the S2000. SilverFog, bravo for speaking your mind and standing up for others who express their opinions in a rational manner, like Bieg. Vaper, Bravo, for straight talk and a reasonable tone.

Beig, Nice thread, aside from all the flames telling you that you're a rotten bastard for telling people NOT to mod their cars, or that they are bad for modding their cars.
Neither of which was ever expressed by you.
I will try to continue in kind by stating my opinions and beliefs and not attack individuals for their opinions or decisions or suggest they agree with me.
One point you did mention. People think a modded car is worth less because it was hammered on, whether or not it really was. I ask everyone to recall that post on that used S2000 with the guages (but no super charger), civic exhaust, Accord wheels and tire. OK, also remember that every last person who posted on that thread said - "That car is beat", and "I wouldn't buy that!" I'm sure it could be returned to stock easily, but nobody said "Hey, buy it for $25K, and get the factory parts for less than 3K, you'll be ahead" Seems to prove your point and we didn't have to wait 30 years...
One thing the detractors mentioned was that
porches and ferraris get modded...". I'm sure they do, but nobody goes to auction looking for a slammed Testarossa. A Ruf Porche, maybe, but that's a differnt beast.
I think it is safe to say, I am in the no-signigicant mods camp. (I have Rick's leather goodies, a muz matt, giampero's 3-piece mats, and Dennis' grill, all of which I could remove in less than 5 minutes.)
I also believe this car suffers from being a Honda and from having a $32K price point. (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my HONDA and that $32K price point. My last three cars were Hondas, none of which I thought needed to be modded, for my needs, anyway)
I think if the S2000's price point were closer to that of it's rivals (Boxster, Z3, CLK, etc.) that it would be less prone to modifications. (nobody would have any money left for them
) However, because it is a Honda, no-one would spend $60K for it. And because it is a Honda, the aftermarket community targeted it successfully.
In my daily commute, I pass dozens of Z3s, Boxsters, etc. I don't see so much as aftermarket rims on them. Does this mean their rims are better? No. Owners respect the heritage of the car and the brand and know well enough to leave it alone. (my opinion here, no flames please. Of course most of them are also stuffed shirts and not gear-heads)
To be fair, I have yet to see any modded S2000s either, but lets face it, they do exist and the ratio to modded/bone stock is probably much higher due to the limited production runs. (Look at some of those Japanese sites. Every car has an airplane wing stapled on the trunk!)
I'm sure my car won't be worth much in 20 years, but I am also sure I would LOVE to own another S2000 20 years from now, when my daughter has grown up and moved out. I am also sure that when I go shopping for that S2000 in 20 years, I'll be looking for one someone garaged for 20 years waiting for a sucker like me to pay an extremely large sum of cash for a low-mileage, bone stock S2000. (Although I hope they only did it because they bought 2 and drove the hell out of the other one. This car was built to be driven)
That's my two cents.

How very colorful. What part of "many old topics are made new again" was hard to understand?

Redundant? I think so.
i might add here that when it came to selecting the "car of the century" it was pretty much universally agreed [except for the english that have this thing for minis]that it was the ford model t...even in 1909 when introduced, not an engineering/design marvel[i'll argue that point by point if you like]...and they made 27 million of them..not quite limited production either...and it's well known that the t spawned one of the largest single model aftermarket industries ever known...estimates are that one in three were "modded"....i wonder how our baby will fare when the votes are cast in 2100....

Yes, true, but the new topics almost always add to the knowledge of the board by building on the old. However, nothing new is added to the stock vs. modified argument in every one of these threads - and there have been a lot of them. I just did a quick search and found 148 posts in a variety of threads in which Bieg used the word "stock".
Redundant? I think so.

You would think if people were SO TIRED of this subject that it would have been ignored and fallen by the wayside. Obviously people have a lot to say on the subject IF THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SAY IT without getting slammed by the Mod Squad.
