1) 1989 944 S2 (non turbo). Recently restored to excellent condition. A beautiful immaculate example. Black on black. Records, Clarion stereo, 3M Stongard, 3.6 turbo rims, M030 suspension just added - thus lowered, aligned and corner blanced. No leaks. Everything in order. Concours ready. 128k miles. $11,500.
That car is NOT "Concours ready". Just because someone advertises a car for a price does not mean he will get it. A 944 is barely a Porsche. The more high end you get with Porsche the less apt they are to be modded with anything but the latest factory updates.

Being a PCA member, and a participant in various Porsche Club events, I have personally seen hundreds of modified Porsches. This covered the main range - 911s, Boxsters, 944s, 914s, 928s...

Additionally, at the last John Eagle Honda Driver's Education at Texas World Speedway there were, I think, about seven or eight NSXs. I don't think a single one was stock. Some Comptech superchargers, at least one NOS kit, one color scheme I did not like at all, all sorts of bits in the engine bays...

*shrug* Just more reasons why I believe that modding a car does not mean the owner thinks of it more in a Civic light, or that keeping it stock pushes it towards the Ferrari end.

ps - For Boxster techie bits, visit the Boxster Racing Board at http://www.iq.dynip.com/~racing/index.cgi/index.cgi? The existence of that board is why gearhead postings are missing from Porsche Pete's 986board.com.

bieg; if you're going to make public statements like "a 944 is barely a porsche" you'd better be able to back it up with some rational if we are to subscribe to the "gospel according to bieg"on modding[or anything else for that matter....]also let's not say that a car unknown to you is "not ready for concours"..been to a concours recently??? things have changed...they have classes for all sorts of stuff these days....

944, derived from the 924 which is even less of a Porsche with it's engine design sourced from Audi. Porsche even had to license the ballance shaft technology from Mitsubishi.
Also it was not made in Stuttgardt (sp?) home of all true Porsches. People think the 914/4 is not a Porsche either because the engine was sourced from VW. As a matter of fact if I remember correctly it was a collaborative effort that was supposed to be sold at VW dealers as a VW but porsche wound up with it somehow. The 914/6 at least used a real Porsche engine. Many porsche folks I know frown upon anything below a 911 though the Boxster seems to be winning over even some of the hard core people.

let us not forget the first porsche was built with an engine, suspension, gearbox, steering "sourced" from wartime VW kubelwagen bits....porsche's been lifting stuff from the parts bin for years...not to mention that porsche/audi and volkswagen[KDF] go waaay back...popular opion aside,a 914 must be considered a porsche as the porsche design bureau had serious input on all vee-dub engines...no?

I have a "Porsche Designed" lamp and a "Porsche Designed" portable radio but that don't make them great driving machines. Dr. Porsche designed the VW Bug for Hitler but we don't consider the Bug a "Porsche". Porsche has design input into a lot of products but calling a 914, 924 or even a 944 a "real Porsche" is like calling a Fiat 124 a Ferrari.

That being said both the 944S and the 914 were pretty nice inovative cars. The 924 was ehh.

This is not a troll. The real issues presented by Beig's point of view are too often lost in the noise created by certain people who seem to be missing the point. The fact that SpaceNeedle (who has been a troll since he used to be called "Ben" and was banned from this board) feels the need to make an ass out of himself should not reflect on the original post. It would be nice if everyone was capable of intelligent discussion.
