[QUOTE=rworne,Feb 1 2006, 12:28 AM]That is just - insane.

A theft-deterrent in the key keeps people from jacking your car, but allows the dealer to jack your wallet.

Saki: The tonneau is supposed to come w. the car new ? heh, if so i'm gona make another call over to my Honda buddy.
Its supposed to come with the car just like the keys. If I was missing the master key, I'd be yelling at Honda Care and not dropping $200 so easily though.

Technically, can't we remove the chip from the key and tape it to the car near the ignition lock so we'd only need a new key cut and not programmed if we lost a key?

If your state has any kind or return period on cars, I'd threaten the dealership that you're going to return the car unless they give you at least the master key. I think here in NC a buyer has 10 days to "try" a new car they've bought, and they can return it in that period or something.

You have to get the key made at the Honda dealer becuase it needs to be coded to your car for the Immobilzer. If you just want a key made to unlock the car (not sure why you would) you can get a copy of the key made anywhere, but it won't start your car.

PTSmalls: All that stuff - towhooks, keys, tonneu cover, etc are supposed to some with the car. If they were missing, they should have been replaced prior to the car recieving Honda CPO certification. If the dealer will not help you, contact Honda Corporate North America. They have strict guidelines and standards that CPO Hondas must meet, and your car is not meeting them with all the missing bits.

Also all warranties other than the Factory 3yr/36k mi warranty offered by Honda dealers are through the 3rd party Honda Care. They are NOT factory warranty and they do not have the same coverage as the factory warranty. They do not even always cover TSB repairs.

Dunno why these are so damn expensive.

Just an immobilizer key for the 2003 costs what? $80+? Here at work we have access badges that use pretty much the same type of technology, and the badges cost less than $3.00 each. So that leaves the key. How much does a key cost?

If the car's missing stuff, you can try and take it back. Faced with having to give back close to 30k, I'd imagine a dealer would give you a 200$ key....

Tha's awesome!

My 04 CPO didn't come with the master key, just called Honda Service America and they told me that the dealer isn't obligated to give me the master key but they were going to call the dealer themselves. We'll see what happens.
