chirp tire at 5krpm. weird?
my S is 3 months old with 3k miles. i dumped my clutch today the first time just to play some launch. i reved a bit and dumped the clutch but then i realized that i didn't reve enough and rpm was only at 5k. since most people say the S has to be launched at 7krpm to break the tires loose, and i expect it has to be at least in vtec, i thought i screwed up but to my surprise the rear tires spinned for a while and grabbed and i took off.
the gound was dry and not slippery at all. so my question is that is it weird that the tires spin so easily?
i think it's not likely but can it be that the 02 has more torque? vw 1.8t for one gets more power in newer model years so i'm not too surprised if honda fixed something and resulted in more power.

Well, most people say to rev higher so that the car stays in vtec once the tires regain traction. Tires will easily spin at 5,000 rpm if you release the clutch pedal quickly. Hopefully you weren't spinning your clutch instead.
It is possible to get a stronger S2000 from the factory but I do not think that there are any changes to the engine for 02. In fact, I was able to pull slightly on a mildly modded 02 a few weeks ago from a roll... so go figure.

Nothing weird there.
Stronger grabbing clutch can help this. Also if the tires have over pressure or when the tire is cold also helps.
Remember that on the track and on the street is very different.
As the tires warm up and gets hot you will find that it is more difficult to break traction.
It all depends on the condition of the tires and the road surface and outside temperature.
