Civic Si vs. S2000 (AP1)
Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. Some things to think about, and appreciate everyone's comments. I am strongly leaning to the S2000 for various reasons, but like some things about the Civic too. I would imagine that since the prices for both a really close, there might be some moderate amounts of cross-shopping.
A couple of quick follow-ups to a couple of posters: To me, a reliable, fun daily driver that is cheap (and $20k-ish is cheap) is what I define as a beater. I don't mean it in a disparaging way. Cars in this price range are very inexpensive. BTW - I only listed a couple of my cars in my signature. The RX7 is my daily - and my beater! I love it. The Z is stored most of the time and not really driven.
Again, thanks for everyone's comments! This has been a great site for learning about the S2k.

Perhaps I can add a bit more insight here as apparently I didn't cover it well enough in my first post.
I happen to own both an '00 S2000 and an '06 Civic Si w/Navi. I know of one other guy on this site in the same situation.
If I want to get away for a weekend or just get in a car and drive it for the pure joy of driving I get in the S2000 (especially now that it's out of warranty and has a Comptech SC/AC).
If I want to go on vacation for a week or longer the Si wins hands down. With the trunk room and the additional space in the back seat it's simply no contest. If you haven't driven the Si and experienced the IVTEC you really don't understand what the new Si is all about.
No need to knock what you don't know.

My Si is my daily driver and my S2000 is my weekend/fun car.
If I had to make the choice between one or the other I'd have a very difficult time making up my mind. Both are fun cars to drive and own and each has it's own distinct advantages.
From a very practical point of view, if I could only own one car, I'd probably opt for the Si. It does a lot of things very well that the S2000 cannot do, and its almost as much fun to drive. Luckily, I don't have to make that choice, but since owning the Si I've put almost half the miles on my S2000 as I normally would have.
I also agree with Mike as far as those of you who are knocking the Si but have never driven it. I chuckle when I read the expert opinions. Drive one before you say anything. You are in for the surprise of your life. Not to take anything away from the S2000, which I love, but Honda got everything right on the Si.

if you are leaving it stock, get the S2k.
the reason being civic WILL have alot thieves issue, the k20 is hotter than PS3 on the most wanted list.

I'm kinda getting tired of hearing the apples to oranges argument. That term is starting to annoy me almost like how the exhaust of an Impreza has.
I wish I could comment on the Si. I haven't driven one though I'd like to test drive it just for kicks.

LOL, the PS3 dropped off the most wanted list after launch. My friend and I were at Best Buy last Saturday and they had 28 in stock. Yes, 28. And it was like that for who knows how long, because we both could've gotten our hands on one and we walked in at like 8 in the evening.

maybe i just didn't look hard enough(being old and all
)I drove the si when it first came out(the coupe with all optional equipement), it felt great, i like it better than the GTI(being a honda pile, i can't seem to apperciate the low end torque, plus i got tired fixing electronic stuff off my gf's vw).
if the OP want a beater/daily, maybe the sedan would be a great choice
