Clunking noise pulling away
Hi everyone,
was out in the car tonight and drove it pretty hard and had it sideways a little about 30mins into the drive my check engine light came on and I noticed that pulling away in first gear produced this awful noise from the rear of the car sounds like a horrible clunking sound and feels like somethings going to snap then once your going it goes away, all the up shifts on the gear box are smooth as usual but the downshifts produce a single loud clunk as I lift of the clutch, not as bad as pulling away in first gear sounds though just a single one and not a series of them, so cut the drive short tonight and limped the car home at 40mph as I was only 40mins from home, when I reversed on the driveway at home it’s smooth as usual no noises witch I found strange as I thought it would be the same as first gear, going to plug it in later today and see what codes it brings up and will update the post
thanks In advance for any info il try to get a video if I can just worried I might make it worse if I drive it again as I cruised home and only had to stop twice at traffic lights so didn’t need to use first gear other than that luckily

Never thought wheel bearings I did fit a second hand hub the evening before I went out, and I’ve done a code reader and it threw up the 02 sensor code so guess il start there, going to get new cv joints as it was clicking before anyway if they both don’t sort it out guess il do wheel bearings

Don't get aftermarket cv axles! They're all horrible. Vibe city.
Either:
Swap inner axle cups (need to regrease during, messy job)
Get axle spacers
(If you do either of above, when eventually cv wears out again, can do the other. Then eventually do other again. Swap. Then spacers. Then swap back with spacers. Get 4 lifespans)
Buy new inner cv from Honda (same messy job as cup swap)
Buy new axles from Honda (only for ballers, $$$)

And thanks for mentioning axle spacers, I have a question about them as I was thinking of buying them to put them on the car with the new drive shafts but is it worth it? I’ve read that they help when the cars been lowered and mines been lowered about 20mm, weather what I’ve read is true or not I don’t know haha so question is shall I get them now or wait till I have a clicking problem again?
thanks for response everyone

I had this same issue, I just retourqued the rear axle nut and the problem was solved. If you keep driving it like that you’ll damage your wheel bearings and hub, be careful!
