my fiance and i have the s as our only car. we live in downtown dallas, so grocery shopping is a pain in the ass no matter what car you have. you'll get very good at packing the trunk full.....almost like a big origami puzzle. i've squeezed a full size grocery cart in there...about $175 worth of food. a couple of other things i have noticed are the lack of lumbar support, the blind spot, the left thigh bolster always makes me go easy on it, a/c doesn't cool super well in 100+ texas with the top down. all fairly petty.

the seats are pretty supportive and bolstered but i have to slink down in the seats to see stoplights and such out of the windshield, so this kills my back for long periods of time. lumber would help. also the thigh bolster on the left gets sat on when you get in and out if your not careful. i make a conscious effort to not do this so the leather doesn't get all creased up....totally vain, i know! the blind spot is easy to get around if you point your mirrors as far away from the car as possible.

I think this is exactly the core of the question the original poster was asking: "What are the potential problems with the S2000 as a daily driver?" But you did not go into details of what these potential troubles are. I'd be curious to know as well (even though I own my S2000 daily driver for more than 5 years by now, but I do have other cars to drive when necessary).

Almost all the answers given so far fall into two categories: Issues that are generic to small convertables (two seats, convertable, , soft top, lack of space, and so on) but are not specific to the S2000. If you drive a small roadster (S2000, Miata, Z4, Boxster, SLK, ...), you'd have these problems, whether it is a S2000 or not. The other issues are generic to owning the S2000 (stolen seats, stiff suspension, loud, and so on) but are not specific to "daily driver". If you drive a S2000, you'll encounter these issues, whether it is a daily driver or not.

So bottom line is I have not seen any answer to the original poster's question: "What are the potential problems with the S2000 as a daily driver?" Specifically issues that only relate to the S2000 (not generic roadster issues) and only the S2000 as a daily driver (not generic S2000 issues). Are there any?
Wow, I seem to have struck a nerve with you people... face it guys that is not a good daily driver.. not even close.

Want reasons?

1) Many say it depends on the type of enthusiast your are.... well guys unless you're ENTIRE life is a Fast and the Furious movie, a loud rough car wont work all the time in ever facet of your life for the most part. Sometimes you may need a comfier, quieter ride.. you may not be in a particular mood for it some days (it happens)

2) A two seater? Hey man, like i said... unless you have no family and or friends this can potentially be a problem.... don't tell me I have to explain this one to you guys as well.. you can only take one person around at any one time. this may not be much of an issue for many of you most of the time but you never know when you may really need a back seat... anything can come up

Hey man, I'm not knocking the S2K at all... all I'm saying is if you get a two seater, there will be many compromises that most people would rather not make ALL THE TIME

I cant beleive I'm having to explain this

definitely no for daily driver. hard to put that much groceries or large items in it. i bought a truck for that purpose and use s2k on weekends
Add to that if your daily duties include hwy jaunts the hwy noise can be annoying along with the crappier than crap stereo. Room for only one passenger and they have to fold themselves in half if they are over 6' not a big deal for most but it was for me when taking customers to lunch. I think the S2k is a great car but, is not meant for daily duties except for the truly hardcore drivers.

I have bought the car last week to be my daily driver. It has been only 500 miles of ownership, but I love it so far. And last Sunday, I carried $170 worth of groceries in the trunk..

I don't think you struck a nerve with me, but I DO think you are assuming that everybody's daily routine is the same as yours. I find the S2000 absolutely fine as my daily driver, but I imagine you and I are in different stages in our lives.

If I had to commute 80 miles each way to work over broken pavement, yes, the S2000 would be a horrible daily driver. If I was responsible for ferrying around potential clients to and from the airport, yes, the S2000 would be a horrible daily driver. If I have a back problem that requires a smoother ride, and a cellphone habit that requires an automatic transmission, yes, the S2000 would make a horrible daily driver.

But luckily, none of those apply to me. So, In my case the S2000 makes a particularly wonderful daily driver.

Why do you assume that the original poster has the same priorities you do?

I guess you could stuff lobsters and steak in there.

Likewise. How long have you had your S? I've been daily driving mine for over 3 years, including winter. I'm not "hardcore", although I love owning and driving a fun car. I have a family and many friends. I have ZERO problems daily driving this car. My golf clubs fit in my trunk. My hockey gear fits in my trunk. Yes the factory stereo is crap, but it was easy to upgrade.

Why would I want to park this car and drive something else?

I love the S2000, and love the idea of a convertible.

Having never owned a convertible, I'd love to hear an opposite discussion of some of the cons of having a S2000.

For example, the recent thread about the high theft of seats.

What are some of the things that would be a negative to owning a S2000?

Interested in hearing the other side of the coin.

Thanks.
Are you in Arizona ? If you are, then you should know that even with the top up and air conditioning ran at full blast, the heat of Arizona during summer days will get you through the un-lined vinyl top. If you like to own a convertible car in Arizona heat, you should consider to get after-market linning for your top so that you can use it during the day in summer.

My S is my weekday car to work, round-trip is less than 10 miles in city streets. The temperatures in the morning to work and evening back home are very mild all year, I can have my top down up to 90% or more for commuting to and from work, the top was up the remainning days because of rain. I drove my S few times during lunch hours in summer, the heat though the top was not very pleasant even with air conditioning ran at max.

Just like any other nice item in any car, you may like to get these for your future S2000: seat locks, wheel locks ...

i just got my 02 and is pretty much my daily driver.. since i got it i have about 2k miles (about 85 miles a day).. i have all of those issues (family w/2kids, wife can't drive a stick, so if i need to take the kids out she can't go anywhere because i have the tahoe) but you know what?? I told her .. i'm driving it everyday, for those instances where you are out and i need to take the kids, one of us will have to borrow a car or stay home... i used to drive a 300 z to school, it broke down, got married so i got a hyundai (which was ok, but....) so now i wanted to get back to what i love driving.. a sports car.. i'm 5'11 and almost 200 lbs, an hour commute each way is the best two hours of my day until i see my kids (then an hour of that and i want to send them to bed)..
bottom line.. i worry about what happens when it snows (i'm in the suburbs of NY), but i'm loving it.. i eye it while i walk away from it, and sometimes stare at it when its sitting on my driveway.. call me crazy, but enough said..
