Considering selling M3 vert for S2000...
Thanks guys, I really do appreciate it. I don't think I will be tracking the S2k as no verts are allowed in the BMWCCA DE's or anything like that. I have run some of my other M3's against S2k's in the past on the track and while the S2k is a good track car I never had much trouble passing them on the track, likely a driver thing but the E36 M3 with $1,500 worth of suspension upgrades is pretty hard to beat
I have no worries with insurance as I'm 33 and married, I had even toy'd with the idea of buying another Porsche (3 previously owned) but I keep coming back to your guys S2000's.
I think one of these with a nice suspension, cool rims/tires, and a nice set of pipes would be a pretty fun car for driving to work.

For the exception of perhaps the E30 M3, M3's are are pretty porky cars.
You were probably driving against people who drive as good as me on the track.(I just started) The car handles like you wouldnt believe! I get in a good mood everytime I get into my car, pure joy to drive.
It is small, while it may be fun to drive around the traffic, not very much when you run into traffic.(kids safety)
-Two seater(kids)? Not very much storage place for luggage and ect...Plenty for briefcase, just not ideal for a huge presentation
-Average stereo
If it's gonna going to be YOUR car, and not the family car, I dont think there is better choice when it comes to price, performance, and looks.

And you'll be surprised, but the stock suspension on an S2000 is more track-worthy than the $1500-upgraded M3 suspension. Seriously ... I know your BMW experience has taught you that the stock suspension has to be upgraded for any serious performance driving, but I really suggest you drive the S hard for a while before you commit to making an "upgrade". For track or autox performance, a lot of experience has shown that any suspension you can get for the S that is less than about $1000/corner(!) is pretty much a waste of money. (Except for the anti-bumpsteer control arms, that is.)
The bottom line is that if you do get the S, I would highly recommend you find someone else to track with. BMWCCA isn't the only pond worth fishing in.

Trust me, it must have been a driver thing. The E36 M3 will get beat by the S on most tracks, assuming equal (and good) drivers. But the M3 is easier to drive, so assuming equal but novice drivers, the M3 will beat the S.
The head of the driver's school told the S2k owner that the car would not be allowed at BMWCCA events again because of the no vert. rule. They allowed it this one time because it wasn't noticed when the owner signed up and he already paid his $ and arrived at the track. He also bought the HT specifically for track use. He was not happy ... but at least he had his one day of fun smoking BMW M Cars.
I had already been thinking of buying an S2000, but the sound and fury of that thing racing past my E30 M3 pushed me over the edge.
At least I still have my BMWCCA plates on my Honda!

I think insurance on the S is cheaper, especially with a multi-car discount. I think madsedan is also above the "rape the young person" insurance rates so that might not be too much of an issue.
Cosmos - you just hate to see anyone get rid of a M

One thought. You stated that you were looking for a kid hauler. I have a 3 series (not an M) and a 2004 S. The BMW is a more solid safer car, especially in bad weather. The S is very secure for it's size, but the BMW has a lot more safety equipment. The passenger airbag in the S can not be turned off, so hauling small kids is a non option.
