Convertable Top Trouble
Hey,
Have any of you guys had trouble with your top going down all the way? I have an 02 with only 13000 miles and I am having trouble with the top. It goes down almost all the way but leaves about 6" or so above the back. If I put it up and down about 5 times one of them will usually go down all the way. I have inspected the top and there is nothing wrong.
Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks!!!

But not always.....mine didn't go down the other day in 90 degree weather. I've been seeing this problem once every few weeks, and I drop the top twice a day unless it's raining. You don't have to put it up and down repeatedly, just put it halfway up and pull forward on the first frame bar (gonna need a picture to explain that, I'm afraid.....not the leading edge of the top, but the next bar), and it should go down no problem.
With the top up, locate the roof bar just above and behind your head. When retracting the top and the leading edge is vertical, stop the motion and push the previously mentioned bar aft, then continue to retract.

There's a thread here with a picture of the best place to lube the top. The magic spot is reached by removing a small cap (I think the cap is just cosmetic) on one of the ribs at both the passenger's and driver's side of the rib.
A dab of S-E there is like miracle juice.

Is it like spraying white lithium grease on the tracks of a slow sunroof?

I had the cold-weather creaking noises. It would drive me crazy at any temperature below about 50 degrees.
I coulda sworn the noises came from the header gasket, but noooooo...they came from the top joints, which the S-E eliminated.
If you do this, be sure to use S-E, not lithium grease, and a little dab'll do ya.
