I feel like a convertible top ought to last about 4 years if you abuse it (like parking outside 24/7 in the snow belt) and about 5 years if you treat it really nice. Mine's an '04 with a hard top for winter, and it goes up and down once per day in the summer, so I'm guessing that it ought to be good until sometime in 2009. If it goes South before that, I'm calling the policy rep and pitching a fit. Otherwise, I'll buy a new top with no worries.

mine is a MY00 with 38500km (24xxx miles). elastic bands are failing and it's showing wear on the top inside, and on the side by the plastic piece. car is way out of warranty and the dealers up here are f'ing anal. maybe i should change to the robbin's glasstop

On a newer s2000, the dealer will replace it, but on an older one like mine (despite me having 32000 miles on it) they wont, because the car is too old....never mind the fact that they KNOW it's a defect.

My S2000 has been bulletproof...except for the top! Sure enough, when i looked last week, the third brace had worn through the top on the inside, at the elbow on the passenger side.

I'm lucky - mine's an 06 and under warranty. I also happen to have a great salesguy who I have a very good relationship with, so within an hour, I was approved for a new convertible top.

I do however, feel for owners who treat their car like me (garage it, treat the top with protectant, etc.) and have the top wear through just out of warranty. In fact, the only reason I purchased the extended warranty was due to the top, and was specifically told that the top would be covered, if it was determined that the top was torn due to a faulty mechanism.

Either way, I'd sign a petition, and even post up a copy of my repair receipt. Its a somewhat common problem on S2000s and Honda should go the extra mile and offer a longer warranty on the tops.

What's funny about this is I do NOTHING to my car or the top. It sits outside in all weather conditions, I rarely wash it and have done this for 5+ years. My top is fine.

You guys that appear to "take care" of it are having the problems.

how often do you put the top down?

this problem happens when the top is down. there is a small piece of metal it rubs on.

"Taking care" of it has nothing to do with the problem. Read the facts.

Putting the top up and down often wears it down. I put mine up and down at every possible chance.
