A couple of questions - going to purchase an S2k soon
As of now, I've pretty much made up my mind as to what car I want to purchase, but I've just got a few questions for ya to help me finalize my decision . . .
1.) Price - What is the lowest you guys think I could purchase a brand new (2002) S2k for? What do you think I can talk them down too? The Retail price in my area is around $32,400 - give or take a few hundred.
2.) The hard top - how difficult is it to put on/take off? About how long does it take to put it on or take it off? Does Honda sell some sort of storage rack for it so it doesn't just sit in my garage floor when not in use?
3.) Performance - anyone in this forum is obviously a fan of its performance, but what kind of cars have you beaten on a track setting? On a street setting? How heavily modified?
4.) Fun Factor - If you have driven other cars like it, how does it measure up to other cars in its class (convertibles/roadsters around $30k)?
Thanks in advance. I'm excited to read the responses.

3. The car is alot slower than my MR2 turbo for street driving. The S2000 is not an under-powered car, but not a powerful performing car either. The car comes to life after 7000 rpm (then it feels pretty fast). Up to that point, the car feels not-very-fast.
i figure this car is special in it's own way. there's always cars coming out that are faster. Especially next year, every company has some kind of fast car. To drive something fun like this with performance is a plus. I wouldn't care if someone blows the door off my car because i'd think hey there's always something faster than him but im still here enjoying crusing around. Sure i'd love to have more power...but a person in a state of denial like me is biased! haha GET THAT S2000!! you'll love it.
1. I've seen folks on this board who have paid under list. Try searching "price", "msrp", etc.
2. Unless you order it to be delivered with hardtop on, it will need to have the installation kit put on. You can do it yourself in about 3 hours if you are handy. Once the kit is on, it will take 2 people to put on and take off the top unless you build yourself some kind of hoist system to hang it from the garage ceiling above the car. I made my own but you can buy them through M. Benz or Miata dealers. These are pricey and may need some modification before you can use them on our HT. The top itself has 4 latches. These can be done up or undone in less than a minute. (The convertible top is open when the HT is on. A diverter switch prevents you from operating the soft top when the HT is on.) The Honda storage rack is available but I consider it to be way overpriced. Besides, it takes up floor space.
3. Look at the performance numbers in the car mags. 0-60 in just under 6 sec. 1/4 mi. around 14.0 sec (give or take). It is NOT a drag car so it needs some skill to be good at it. It excels in cornering.
4. I have owned a lot of big buck, hi-perf cars and this one has given me one of the highest fun factors. It has tremendous performance for a 2 liter and yet can return you with surprisingly terrific fuel economy. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy (as compared to Vette ZR-1, Viper) so you have enough money later to personalize it with mods.
It's a great looking convertible and a great looking coupe when the HT in on. It's more masculin than most and less "King Kong" than others. I must confess that I didn't buy it because it is a convertible and I might not have bought it if it didn't have the available hardtop. It's also one of the very few true sports cars that can be driven in the winter when properly equiped. I LIKE IT!

1. I got mine for a little bit under MRSP last summer. There are many dealers selling them for MRSP and a few under. Do a search and post in your region's club forum, some owners may know of some good dealers to recommend you to.
2. I don't have a hard top myself but from what I understand its four latches. You can remove it by yourself, although it is harder than if you had some help. Or make a pulley system.
3. This is definitely one of the faster cars in the market IMO. Handling is second to none. I've owned and driven many cars and by far, the S2000 is the tightest of them all.
4. On the fun factor scale b/w 1 to 10, I give it a 12!!! Very fun car.
Get it, you'll love it.
