Got a small 1/2" crack in my windshield yesterday, is it fixable?

I doubt it, you'll probably have to replace the entire windshield. If you don't you'll see a longer crack by the end of the week.

you can temporarily patch it up. if you need time to shop around for a new windshield you can do this -

dry the area and make sure there's no moisture in/around the crack. get clear nail polish (from g/f, spouse, or walmart), and apply it into the crack. smooth it out, and it'll hold for sometime. not make the crack worse. especially with winter now, if you leave the crack as it is you're gonna get "spider webs" soon.

Just stop drill it

jkd don't do that! You'll probably have to replace the whole thing.

have you tried calling your insurance? if it's fixable, they'll arrange for a local repairer to come to you and it won't cost you a penny (since it's much cheaper for them to repair as opposed to replace w/ a new windshield, most insurance companies will waive your deductible and pay the bill). on my old car, i had about 5 chips fixed over about 10 yrs or so. your insurance will probably give you a choice of a few local places to pick from, and most windshield repair shops will send a guy out to you (had a guy come out to my parking garage at work to fix it once). you'd be amazed what can be repaired.

Try www.wefixwindshields.com;
I used their local professional three times already, with great results. Usually gets at least 95% of the crack repaired, so the end result is you have to look really hard to see the damage...

Do something soon or your crack will start to show like a plumber's butt.
