Not sure about California, but here in Florida your insurance is required to pay for a replacement 100%. Couldn't hurt to call.

Good luck
x2 in Massachusetts. Nothing out of pocket and brand new glass

I just got a new windshield for my Fit, it was $280..not so bad. I wouldn't the imagine the S is anymore than that..unless S2k glass is better than Fit glass

Hi again everyone. I investigated my mysterious crack. While I do get the cracking noise every time I cross a particular bump, it' actually not cracked. It's freakin scratched! I'm the culprit. I wiped a bug off the windshield before I left home. The rag, or the bug, scratched the glass! I read about the soft glass, etc., Then I purchased a "plastic" glass cleaner, for the not-real-glass. That's soft as well. I put 10 minutes into it and it's almost invisible. I'll do it again later. Glass polish, I believe it was called. Frankly, I think it should be done every time I give the car a good cleaning. It makes a huge difference to the glass. I've never used it before. All that small ground-in grime that stays on the glass during the wash and dry, is now gone! Sorry if I got anybody worried about body movement, etc. Thanks everybody.

Well, insurance usually will cover a broken windshield, but the point is you have to pay the deductible still. I have a low deductible of only $300, but another hundred bucks or so and I have a windshield. Most deductibles are $500-1000+, so there's hardly a point to go with insurance, right?

Anyway, mine's cracked from top to bottom too. Happened during a charity rally with the 6SpeedOnline folks. A white Lambo Gallardo spit up a rock and it hit my windshield. Caught it on video too!!
Insurance premiums for windshields are often lower than normal - around $50-$100 regardless your normal deductible. Prob worth a call.

Wow! I did not know that. Thanks, I will look into it this week. I've been living with two HUGE cracks across the entire windshield for over 6 months now.

And to think, I was going to wait til 2011 for my inspection to change it.
