Man.... The OEM front lip cost like $499

Don't buy accessories from the dealer
I'm guessing people here are not understanding what I meant by "dealer cost."

"Dealer cost" is just that, the dealer's cost. In other words, the cost the dealer has to pay for the part. What the customer pays would be retail, or MSRP.

I'm interested in the dealer cost of the hardtop. If MSRP is $3000 then the dealer's cost is somewhere below that, maybe $2000.

So, with clarification, does anybody have any helpful information?

Thanks

When I bought my S, they gave me all accessories at what they call "Dealer Internal Cost", which is what the accessory costs them to buy, plus installation at cost - (it's what employees get). That said, they sold me the top installed for $2600.

Call Hardtopguy or visit his site (www.hardtopguy.com). His installed price will be the best you can get. Based on that price, negotiate. Paying your local dealer a little more for the convenience might be worth it, but it should be close to Hardtopguy's price.

I really want to get a hard top, but I'm nervous about having one shipped to me. On the other hand, I don't want to pay an exta $1200+

I intend to see if my dealership will cut me a deal since I do all my regular service and maintanence there and little profit is better than no profit.
Most dealers don't deal on hardtops. They have no incentive to. They don't stock them - it's not inventory they need to move.
Your best price will be HardtopGuy. The shipping will be insured. Just make sure you inspect for damage it as it arrives.
I avoided the shipping issue by driving to Ohio to pick it up - I had a weekend to kill and Jeff (HardtopGuy) was flexible about my arrival time.
