Definitive S2000 CR Thread
I work at a Honda dealer and have heard alot of mixed information going all the way back to 99 with the release of the S2K . When this car initiall y was released it was a surprise to see HOnda release a car with the aggression this one has . I was told by our GM who supposedly spoke with a "higher Up" with Honda and says that the S will be available till 2010 as the current style with new colors available . I will not state this as fact though so do not quote me on this .

Well... BMW didn't have to bastardize the Z4 when making the Z4M to make go 2 seconds faster around a track with giant wings, bling rims, yellow stitching, removing the soft top, and adding giant scoops to the front now did they?
1. The Z4 in stock form is not as sharp handling or as raw as the S2000. There was room for improvement. This is not so in the case of the S2000.
2. The Z4M costs approximately $12000 more than the Z4. It was conceived to be sold in world markets in larg(er) quanitities, unlike the CR which is just a limited run of 2000 vehicles for the US market only.
3. BMW was able to upgrade the output of the Z4 so easily because they used an EXISTING engine in a car designed to ACCEPT a V6. Where do you propose in your infinite wisdom, that Honda find something more powerful than the F20C, yet as compact, whilst preserving the raw character of the car, and not having to any extensive reengineering.
4. Inspite of all BMW's efforts the Z4M still weighs a fair amount, and is NO WHERE NEAR AS FOCUSED as the CR. It comes with navigation for christ's sake.
A completely, utterly useless comparison. Congratulations on filling this thread with garbage.

most people have body kits, big wings, wheels and suspensions mods on this forum? what do you define as most people? 90%? 60%?
I see about 5 or 6 s2000s a day. I don't see many big wings, or weird body kits.
honda did not follow the trend. They follow a movie. are big wings or body kits the most popular mods on the forum?
The popular trend is mod for power and make it faster. I see alot more people who mod for power then a big wing.

Hardcore enthusiasts did ask for this - and they got it. Honda isn't stupid enough to "follow a movie" - please tell me you were joking when you wrote that
What you have here is a track junkies S2000 with functional aerodynamics, stiffer suspension, and lighter weight.EDIT: as far as modding for power. There is no cheap and easy way to do so to the F20C. Honda's approach instead was to lighten the car.
Vishnu: You are mostly right on target, but one little item off: the Z4M has an inline 6, not a V6. If memory serves, all they really did was graft M3 parts onto the Z4, which already has a 2.5 or 3.0 liter inline 6.
Still, a badass car, especially for folks who don't fit too well in the S.

I just don't understand why everyone is having a stroke over it.
It's an AP2 with a body kit, different wheels and suspension.
It's exactly what most people on this forum change on their own cars.
Because Honda is following the trend on what is popular on this forum all of a sudden it's complete garbage?
My whole point was highlighting the other side.
Appearance mods are subjective and a matter of perception.
I personally see no difference what Honda did with the CR and what people do their own S2000s on here. And most of the general non-S2000 crowd would feel the same way.
Let them build the car so you can reap the benefits of retrofitting and be done.
The suspension alone (if it is truly track tuned) would be worth it on used AP2.
But seems like more people prefer a lowered look than a performing suspension setup.

Many of the folks on here claim the're "hardcore" enthusiasts, and whine and bitch and moan about the "soft, and friendly" AP2. Bullshit. Honda releases a track ready version, and now all these "hardcore" folk appear to have gone soft.
THe wing and lip apperance wise are no better or worse than some of the hideous mods that people on this site put on their vehicles.
It looks like Honda should have stuck some Mugen and Spoon badges al over this thing - then the same folks would probably be drooling all over it.

What so it can be $60,000 with less horsepower?
to anybody that says honda just does what everybody on this forum does to their vehicle you are blind.... i think only a small percentage of this forum adds a whale wing and disguisting interior colors to their vehicle. I do see your point but it doesn't seem to be valid since the majority of the voice on this forum hates that vehicle. To each his own me personally I think its a waiste.
