Definitive S2000 CR Thread
1. Stiffer springs - OK, give you that
2. More dampening -
3. Stiffer sway bars -
4. Stickier RE070 tires - so what? put on your cheap used s2k or get some r compound
5. More downforce - at what speed? You gonna drive 140mph without a cage, proper seat, and harness?
6. Lighter weight - no, not really. minimal difference when top is on.
7. Stiffened chassis - a bit. welded cage would help, too...
I see what you are saying, but the most expensive/vaulable stuff was NOT done, only minor upgrades. I still haven't seen didley about the truly stripped one - if that pans out, that could be a lot better. But these changes listed are minor and do not markedly improve the car (tires probably make the biggest difference).

The "Rare" stripped one you can do your self. Remove your AC system and your radio/speaker. I agree that this CR is missing substance and it doesn't help that it is not pretty. The so call "weight reduction" is meaningless. If you are desperate enough, you can remove the AC, Radio, and spare tire yourself. That should be what, 60 lbs of the 90 lbs weight saving....
Back-Cracker:
My comments were not meant to be terribly specific, other than to say the CR ain't no racer, etc. The 140 was associated with the issue of safety and a cage, etc, not downforce. Sorry if my organization - or the lack of it - made that unclear.
As for track, yeah, I have some experience but I am by no means an expert. At VIR it is easy to hit close to 140 - even on the short south course - in a high powered car, and I have done it routinely. However, that is not why I picked that number. I used 140 just as a number to represent fast, and one that is within the S2000's range. And at any high speed on a track, especially if you are racing, you need safety equipment. Proper seat, harness, bar or cage, fire supp, etc. And lots of good instruction and patience, and no ego. BAck to the car, though - in my mind the name CR is, well, it's just a badge and a couple words for little gain.
I do not appreciate the personal attack - all my comments - and yeah, they have been negative because Honda could have done a fair bit more with this car and made it exciting - have been about the car, not about you or anyone else. So I would appreciate it if you would back off, and rather than rag on me. IF you want to spend some energy, try convincing everyone why this car is special. So far, I am not seeing it. It is fine, and I actually couldn't care less abotu the colors. But it is not a MAJOR step up in performance.
Love the S2000, had 3 of them. Might get another. I was hoping the CR would be something I would like to buy, but it seems nothing special, so I will find another low miles 03 at some point.

Oh, and VIR will not allow convertibles on the track without the proper rollbar. That's my home track, and that's why it is important to me. I don't know if it is in any book or not (though I think SCCA requirments are pretty specific??)- it's just that you can't get on that track without it. And VIR is a great track.
I'm disappointed in the S2000 CR too . . . . . . It won't have racing stripes and number shields.
But, if they aren't a lot more expensive than the base car, that's what I'll buy to save the hassle of doing the performace upgrades myself --- and get what will likely be a much better engineered and integrated package than I (and most anybody else) have the knowledge, experience and skills to do on an S2000; first time, right-off-the-bat, without any expensive and frustrating, cutting-and-trying, switching-and-swapping and hoping, to try to come up with an effective upgraded handling package.
But then, that's just me . . . . . .
