Definitive S2000 CR Thread

The magazine report was in Road & Track, two issues ago, I believe. Further, both my local Honda dealers have corroborated the information. The S2000 will be gone for the 2009 model year.
Dealerships said only 5,000 ('00 model) S2000s would be sold, but we now know that number was almost double. They also tried to say the car would be discontinued after the '01 model (and they made the claim every year or two after that) and we've yet to see that happen. That said with the very weak sales we are seeing now, I feel like the S2000 is due for either a major overhaul or cancelation.
Thats right, it is... as of right now they already have the CR replacement for 09 called the S800. We mentioned it earlier a page back or so. Its aimed at the the miata market so expect it to be a slightly lesser performing version of the S2000. Its a smaller car and cost less.

Its kind of sad really, on one hand I hate to see the s2000 go, it would be fun to see it continue to progress like some of the other makes out there that have had the same model for 20-30 years or more, but then again maybe its good its being discontinued now. It was meant to be a special edition car from the get go with only being in production for a year or couple years. It's maybe taken a way from that some now with 8 years of production, which is probably a good reason why they felt they needed to come out with the CR, but I think the s2000 will be worth more money and hold its value better now that it has been well established but not overly so, it's proved itself rather then something more abscure for only being on the market for a year. There will be enough of them for people to know what they are and seeking them out later but not so many that they are like miatas and not seen as anything special. Like the last Supra I don't see our cars in there worst state dropping below $10,000-$12,000 ever unless they are complete POS, and after a wile will go up in value the more time goes by. Just my thought...
I just came from the airport in Tokyo and checked out their car magazine. I cannot read the article but the new S2000CR is JDM'S type S? They had a type S article and a little box showing our CR?
So I guess we actually got the Type S and not the Type R. It is strange how the devoloper say the CR is in between the Type R and Type S? If only I can read japanese
. I seen dates 10-22 and 10-25 and do not know if there is an auto show at that time or the offical release date in Japan.

As Per Corporate Honda website ( http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=4094), these are the 2008 Honda S2000 Specifications and Features

Thanks for the infomation. The power indicator I haven't heard anything about and sounds interesting. I'm sure it's probably in that article I cannot read.
I'm glad to hear that the type s / cr is coming. Why can't they just call that here? The question is that will honda develope the S2k type r? If the cr was his "last gift" I suppose it may be unlikley to be designed by him.
What is also interesting is that we get the Mugen Si and not the Civic R. Why is honda holding back on the R models on us. I would have purchased the NSXR if it was released here
