I don't know what all of the hating is about. The CR is going to be the "best performing S2000 ever" in every magazine. It's not just cosmetic fluff, the car is 3 seconds faster around the track, that's a significant improvement.
Especially when you consider that most mods people do to their cars amount to slower lap times on the track... a looks-so-great 2" drop, subwoofer in the trunk, heavy 18" wheels, bargain priced Taiwan tires designed for sedans, crappy intake/exhaust, cheap ass fiberglass hoods and bumpers.
A stock CR is going to beat 99% of the tuner trash you see on this site. And if you can pick one up for $35,000 you'd still be under what most people have spent modding their cars.

I'll tell you buy looking at the spec sheet on this car, 75% of whats giving it faster times then the previous model s2000 is the stickier tires with wider rims. Wider sticky contact patch/fast lap times. How is that a marvel of engineering? Put these wheels/tires on a Stock Ap1 with an intake and exhaust and now you have the same pwer to weight car on the same rubber and similer stiff handling suspension and steering ratio. Oops I forgot the wings. If you put in the options of having AC and a radio then you just exceded the weight of a stock Ap1 by almost 100 pounds. Think about that nice feature.
Did Honda claim the CR is a marvel of engineering? Nope. It's a base S2000 with some factory add-ons that make it go faster, lighter and safer around a racetrack, a good start if you like to take your car to track days on the weekends.
Here's what the CR pricing is probably going to look like:
$34,250 Base S2000
3,500 Hard top
500 front spoiler
1,000 rear wing
250 chassis bracing
<-500> delete AC/Radio
<-1,000> delete soft top
---------------
$38,000
Want 50 more HP and more torque? Bolt on a $6,000 supercharger. Want to shave 400 pounds? Fork over $5000 for a Mugen roof, $3,000 for a Mugen hood, $12,000 for ASM doors, $2,500 for a Amuse Ti exhaust, $3,000 for forged wheels. Want to stop faster... $9,000 for Brembo Indy's. Handle better... Motons for $3,500. Add a race roll cage, some Sparco buckets blah blah blah $70,000.

oh, please, here we go again.
the car is faster around that track. it is not a track-worthy car as it comes from the dealer, though, and please don't anyone believe that hardtop is a safety device if you roll it.
we should all stop bashing till it comes out, and we wll see if it sells or languishes, and what people do to it.
