He's right, I read a few months ago in either Road & Track or Car &Driver magazine that they will be comming out with (if I remember correctly) it was called an s800. looked like ass in my opinion. Was marketed to be in a more sub par performance group along with the miata. It was a smaller car. I thought they said power delivery was about 170hp range. Someone will have to check out these mags I mentioned and read the small article again. It looked alot like a soltice from the front. sucky suck...suck! Hold on to your s2000's boys and girls. Take care of them, they will be like all the muscle cars are now in about 25 years. Worth a but load!

He might be reporting what some mag wrote, but that in no way means he's right. Mags have been "predicting" the cancellation/change of the S2000 for ages now.

i like the cr, like i said before if shigeru is happy with it - i think we should be too.

only worry is that if it is a prequel to a type-r a real tracking machine. trying to test the market and such...

looked a bit further along then spectation and a prediction, you can tell the difforence, where you get your facts help. Magazines speculate some and are also a great sorce for facts. When they start listing spisifics like hp/tq numbers, cost for the market it will be aiming for and showing photos. Its kind of hard to say its just speculation. go find the mag from a few months ago and take a look for yourself. It makes sense now that the CR is here for 08 don't you think? from what I've gathered since I seem to be one of few paying attention to whats being listed and what is just speculation, my thought is that this CR will be available for 08 and be discontinued in favore of the s800 which will be Hondas money maker for this class of car. They said themselfs they will loose money on the CR and with s2000 market dwindling, It makes complete sense they would hit a market in the price range of the miata in hopes to take away from their major sales bracket. right?

Yes yes, and in Nov 2006, R&R was saying that the 2008 S2000 replacement would have an engine based on the K24, with 250bhp at 7000 rpm and 180 lb-ft at 4800, priced near the 350Z and "Toyota's upcoming Supra" but in a lighter package. There's a photo as well.

I see you're new here. We're used to this sort of "reporting" by the magazines. Who knows, they could be 100% correct, or, like every other other time, they could be 100% wrong. Nobody here is saying they know what the future holds for the S2000. We're all saying that nobody else knows either.

ps - where did Honda say they would loose money on the CR?

The magazine report was in Road & Track, two issues ago, I believe. Further, both my local Honda dealers have corroborated the information. The S2000 will be gone for the 2009 model year.

From what I gathered from the article the new item will be aimed right at the wildly successful Miata market. As I recall it will be engined with a Civic engine or variant thereof kicking out 200 bhp. If the car is commensurately smaller and lighter then the 200 bhp engine will deliver power performance comparable to the S2000. The statement that it will ride more smoothly but will handle as well as the S2000 bothers me. It could happen, but isn't a sure thing. For top handling a firm ride is just about always an inevitable result.

In the article was a photo of a Honda concept car targeted at that niche that Road & Track thought the new car might look like. The item made a Miata look muscular and aggresive. Extremely cute; women will love it if it looks like the pictured concept car. But not me.

It's most frustrating and disappointing to me that Honda is dropping the S2000. If you study such things, the S2000 is the "sweet spot" in performance vs. price between the Miata and the base Solstice and Skye and the Porsche Boxter S and the BMW Z4; nearly the performance of the latter two cars at $18,000 cheaper in one case and $20,000 cheaper in the other. And the turbocharged versions of the Solstice and Skye fall significantly short of the S2000 performance-wise and are nearly as expensive as an S2000, if you believe Road & Track's track tests.

I think that you should grab a 2008 S2000 if you are in the market for a very cost-effective, mid-performance sports car.

I'm new to posting on the s2000 forum but by no means am I "new" If you would have read the CR article I helpfully posted for us a page back you would have more information to work with. Cheers Honda stated the CR will not make any money. Its a special car to have s2000 go out with a bang sort of speek. The new version s800 will take its place in 09. This is the current up to date info some of us have found.

Just saw the CR in action here at work(American Honda Motor Co.). It was driving around the lot going pretty fast.
Suspension looked pretty stiff going over the bumps. Gets a thumbs up from me.
