FYI people...If you have a 2004 (and later I suppose) S2000, you are out of luck when it comes to installing an AirBag Switch.

Neither Amerian Honda, or AirBag Options, produces a switch that works with the 04. Speaking with Airbag Options, they said that the seat sensor in the 04 causes problems with the switch and they will no longer sell kits for the 2004.

If the car now has a seat sensor, has Honda put a "smart" airbag in the car? If so, then there's far less reason to disconnect it than in the earlier models. The idea of a smart airbag is to deploy less force if there's less weight in the seat (at least I think that's the idea)...

'80s boy, are you sure you have your facts straight here? Did you speak directly to someone at AHM? As far as the seat sensor is concerned, I was not aware of this change in MY04. Can anyone else with an '04 shop manual confirm the presence of a seat sensor? Again, if this is true, why would you want to disconnect the airbag?

I'm just going off what the Airbag Switch people told me...for all I know they are full of it. But they stated more than once that the earlier cars are not a problem for their switch, but the 04's caused enough problems that they will no longer install switches on them.

*update* Spoke with someone from Sensible Solutions, and they claim their switch works fine with the 04. I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding getting it done.

Don't give up. PM me if you want my contact at AHM to pursue their solution. Again, I've seen no information to confirm that there's anything new in the '04...

Good luck.

I've sent for the form, received it, sent it back in, and been approved. When you sign the form, you agree to "de-install" the switch when you sell the car! Talk about control freaks. My wife's S10 came with a switch.

Just curious, how do the automobile insurance companies deal with deactivating the air bag? Has anyone checked with them?

Chaz,

it sounds to me that the MY04 stuff is likely to be false, and i'll only believe AHM as a source for that info... as best i know, there is no 'smart airbag' in MY04's, but i haven't gone way out to double check.

dlq,

when i was looking in to having this done, i called my insurance. State Farm said that a properly installed airbag switch had no bearing on insurance. (properly installed = meeting al the NHTSA requirements)
