I could imagine that there might possibly be necessary changes to the installation instructions because, say, the center panel is different... But I agree that there's probably some bad information that got handed to 80s boy...

80s boy, did you get any more data regarding the '04 situation? I didn't call my AHM contact to ask; maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

To bring this back from the dead...

I just faxed in my NHTSA request and have a Recaro booster seat arriving shortly. Now to determine if my local dealers will do the install.

mind cross referencing us to the booster seat? my daughter is eventually going to outgrow her current toddler/booster seat.

i found that one seat and have been very pleased with it, but have found it virtually impossible to find another very narrow based booster.

The booster seat that I normally use for my kids (some Graco model) doesn't fit in the S. Hope the one you bought fits the contours of the seat.

Best wishes.

I have several booster seats I use in my various cars, but only the Britax StarRiser Comfy comes close to fitting in the S's passenger seat. Even so, the top of the StarRiser hits the headrest insert so I really SHOULD remove it for a good, flush fit against the seat back. But at least the seat base is tiny and fits the S's seat bottom.

PJK's right--MOST boosters are way too wide to fit the S's tight, highly contoured seats correctly. And, unfortunately, that Recaro Sport looks like most of the other "full-size" boosters--way too big to fit correctly. I hope I'm wrong, but you should always try before you buy.

rw, the levelers on the bottom cushion will probably help, but as I recall, it's also the wings on the sides that prevent a booster seat from being flush against the back of the car seat.

With me, I just don't bother with the booster seat, and I just give the kids a cushion or towels to sit on. We also have baby seat which fits the contours of the seat. The kids use that sometimes.

Well, California is getting a new set of carseat laws going into effect on 1/1/05 that requires anyone under 12 yrs or less than 60 lbs to be in a car seat or booster seat. Kids need to be in the back seat at all times too, unless there's no back seat of course.

It scared me for a moment, 'cause when I first read of it, the news reports weren't saying anything about exceptions for 2-seaters. It turns out there is.

well, i got dead lucky then it seems. the seat i found a while back was the Evenflo Comet. i first posted about it back in this thread:

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148350

the seat is very narrow both at the base and the back. it fits snugly between both the lower and side bolsters. and the entire 'cup' of the booster that fits in the S2000's seat is a uni-piece that's essentially smooth all around. i'll have to take some pics of it and post them. i pretty much just took the S out to Babies R Us and a few other stores, then got someone from the store to walk out w/ me while carrying a variety of seats. i picked the best fitting safe looking seat.

rworne, i'm looking forward to hearing how it actually fits in the S. but in all honesty, the price makes it tough for me.... since i paid about $80 for mine, and it doubles as a booster up to 80 lbs.
