dissapointed with the s2k -.-
The S2000 has the same torque to weight ratio...so it won't feel faster than your RSX...but due to a longer redline (AP1) and better gearing it will pull harder than an RSX in top end.
A lot of Civic/Prelude owners had the same misconception about the S2000 as you do. It's still a Honda with a small displacement 4 cylinder motor. It's not a fast straight line car. If you want a monster...get a LS-X motor!

I had an RSX Type S before as well, but feel the VTEC on the S is smoother and meaner. The music it makes alone is beautiful.
The Type S is a wonderful car and I loved it while I had it (both of them, an 03 and an 06), but the S is better in almost every regard (minus space of course).

BAWWW MY VTECS NOT KICKIN IN.
IMA GO BUY A HONDA CIVIC WITH I-VTEC.
Solution: Go buy another RSX, if all you care about is vtec gtfo. If you can't appreciate a car for what it is, you deserve to drive a civic. You can slap 100 performance mods on them, perfect for your taste

The clunk is fairly normal. If you say sit at a light with the clutch out, push the clutch in and quickly shove it into first....it will clunk. That is simply because all the the transmission has not quit spining from when the clutch was out. You can either clutch in, go to 2nd, then first, or just clutch in and wait a second...maybe 2 and engage first. Then there will be no clunk.
Can't say how the RSX-S crosses over into vtec, but when I had mine tuned......got rid of the vtec jump almost completly. That was on purpose. A smooth transition into vtec is better when running corners. Difference being that the big kick "feels" fast, but a smooth transition "is" fast.
Guess maybe the other thing to consider is that in stock form there isn't a huge difference in power between the two cars. The RSX having ivtec probably makes it feel like even less difference.
Both are good cars....the S is probably faster than you think, but drive a few and take your time. See if you really like it. It's a driver's car, and shines in the upper end of the tach.

With any vtec car you shouldn't feel it "hit" if it is set up properly. The hit just means that the vtec engagement is a bit too high. When it is smooth you are making more power in the lower cam thus taking away the hit feel.
I first drove the S2000 and thought it was super slow. Very fun but very slow.
Still loved it for a couple of years NA. Now supercharged and no longer feels slow.

Wow, why are some people giving such negative response? Did the OP hurt your feelings? Just because the S didn't meet the expectations he had.
It's true, the s2000 isn't fast in a straight line, etc. All good and true, but why would you bash somebody for thinking otherwise and then being disappointed after the first test drive?
The initial post didn't sound like he was bashing the S2000, nor was it rude or anything. Some of the replies here are...

I came from civics/integras. Transmission takes some getting use too. I get the clunk into 1st gear if I rush it. Like many have posted, clutch in for a slightly longer then go into 1st. Also, the tranny is a bit 'notchy' compared to most others I have driven. Took some getting use to at first but I don't mind it at all anymore.
As far as speed, isnt the type-s 200hp? So upgrading to 240hp might be decent but definitely not a 'monster' increase.
Driving another s2k wont make a difference in vtec crossover. It is smooth, which is good. I personally like the kick b/c it gives me a false sense of it going twice as fast. But in reality a smooth transition is just as quick.
my 2 cents

DON'T BUY THE S2000!!!
Do you really want one of the only head-turning, amazing-to-drive Hondas ever made? I mean, seriously, the RSX Type-S has better VTEC engagement, yo! If I was you, I most def would grab another RSX, bro, and call it a day. No, #### that! I'd call it a year.
The S2000 is dumb. Who wants a car that is only offered with a manual transmission? I'd get a base RSX with an automatic transmission. Plus, the RSX has more seats which means more of your homeys can tag along for pointless drives around town, trying to show everyone how cool your VTEC sounds from every stoplight.
No, honestly, just don't buy the S2000 because if it disappointed you in your initial test drive, it's not meant to be.
