Has anybody ever blown their engine under normal (non-track or racing) circumstances while taking the car high up in the rpm's in the taller gears?
I had a 3.2 liter Mercedes Benz I-6 "blow" while idling in the dealerships service bay.

Nobody has ever blown up an S2000 because they ran the car to redline, regardless of what gear they're using. With the FI, my car will pull redline in sixth, and it's simply NOT a problem. Even when racing, as long as the engine doesn't experience oil starvation, and doesn't have existing damage from previous abuse (like a money shift), the engine is simply not going to fail. Sure, cruising around at 100 MPH in third gear would produce excessive engine wear, but running the car all the way up, through all the gears, amounts to NOTHING.

If that kind of thing worries you then you really should consider something other than an inertia car, becuae they are all happiest when you rev the crap out of em.
Yea, it's true, your S2000 is happier when you drive it hard. Just ask it.

Well it does and it doesn't.. it makes me feel better that your engine is still going strong, but it makes me a little jealous that you have no oil use! Mine is still drinking a fair bit and my car is stock and doesn't even have as high mileage as yours!
Some cars use more oil than others, and it doesn't really mean a thing (other than that you have to buy a little extra oil now and then). The car has a rev limiter to keep owners from exceeding the maximum safe engine speed, so the only way to damage the engine with excess revs is to throw a money shift. Accelerating through the gears to redline won't hurt ANYTHING, as long as you don't downshift when you meant to upshift.

Seriously, do not be afraid to let the engine rev hard. That's one of the best parts of an S2000, and the car is built to take it.

S2000 revs so easily..
the S13 I'm currently rebuilding doesn't rev to 7000 for it's life, lol.

It's refreshing to have so much revs. It's fun, actually.

ive heard this before but searched and could not find any proof myself...

is it true that honda ran an ap1 motor at 9000 continuously, and it lasted a week (i think) before the rocker arms fatigued?
I think I wrote that. Where I worked, they only had it going on a dyno for like 30 hours...WOT at 8500rpm (maximum power). They were testing it because they wanted to make an aftermarket timing chain for it (it was Borg Warner). Anyway, Honda told them they can only keep it like that for about 350 hours before a rocker will fail.

It was great seeing about 15 technicians just standing outside of the dyno room. Most of them were V8 muscle guys, discussing their torques and cubic inches, as if waging a war of words against the F20's umuffled scream. But, as much as they tried to dismiss the idea of a 2.0 liter making 240 horsepower, and as much as they were disinterested in this pointless technology...you couldn't hide the fact that instead of doing their jobs....out of 10 active dyno rooms, they were all standing next to this one.

It was almost like seeing some underage kids at a strip joint. They'll try to act cool...like it's nothing they've never seen before. Probably won't look directly at the goods, or not for too long. Won't act overly excited. But nobody's fooled as to why they're there.
