It Doesn't look like a MIATA!
I dunno. When someone tells me it looks like a Miata I just tell them, "Its really just a Civic in drag". I've got nothing to prove, I bought the car for me and I really don't care what anyone else thinks of it.

The olny good thing that came out from mazda BEFORE it was bought out by ford was the r1 and even those cars have soo many problems they cant be dd. yes i have been to auto x event and have you seen an rx8? there pretty damm good on the track as well, but they were like the biggest dissapointment., got horriable reviews and not to many people have good things to say about them. Honda as a company is on a whole other level as far as the engines and r&d that goes into there cars. I'm not some guy who just like roadsters and had a previous miata, i love hondas, which i owed about 20 of them. Its seems like most of the people who are on here have a passion for roadsters in genral so they respect miatas, but i dont and 70% of the people driving down the road dont care for miatas.
As stated before, The S2000 would most likely not exist with the successes of the Miata. The Miata brought the roadster back into popularity, and is a very well built car.
Though, why am I trying. Once a fanboy, always a fanboy. Ignorance is bliss.
Woudn't the rx-8 be a better comparison to the s2k. Before i bought my S i test drove an rx-8 and a sti the sti was real nice but felt a little like driving a truck and the rx-8 felt slower and i wanted an S before hand anyway but a miata never crossed my mind

Yeah the S2K was actually introduced as a 10 year Miata anniversary model not the 50 year Honda anniversary they would have you believe. It was created by a couple of disgruntled Mazda employees whose design ideas were not considered for the second generation Miata due to their young age. They sold a lot of their engineering plans to Honda. The 10 year anniversary was chosen to mock Mazda for not listening.

Yeah but the S600 was made simply to meet the demands of the consumers. They won't make a car if they knew they weren't anyone interested.
simply put, without the miata= death of the roadster= no Z3 etc= no market= no competition= no S2000

True, but you don't think the popularity of the Miata helped Honda make the decision to revive a 2 seat roadster from their past?
Note the Miata was introduced in 1989 and the NSX 1990. So in all likihood both we're being designed at the same time.
The S2000 wasn't a 'new' design for Honda but one that had sitting around for about from the 80's It was originally what they wanted to produce and embodies the 'spirit' of their cars. My understanding is mr. honda believed an open top 2 seat car was the most pleasurable automobile experience.

No, it came from the 80's design team that was building a super car. The design team that would ultimately build the NSX first started off with a roadster concept. However the design morphed into the NSX with the addition of the v6.
