engine coolant reverse tank

engine coolant reverse tank
this morning when I changed my oil I notice my reserve tank is well below the min level, and when I start and engine and go for a drive, the tank stays the same, no change in the level. So I went to honda bought a gallon of the coolant and add it to the max level.
I'm not sure how long it had been this low, but I've been driving for about 3k miles since I bought my car when it had 8k miles. and everytime I drive the engine temp gauge have like 7-8 bars (which I recall is normal).
So my question is, does the coolant in the reserve tank matters at all? from what I've heard as long as the radiator is filled up, I shouldn't be worrying about it.
