Default Engine Light

I bought a used s2000 today, 2001 model. When he sold it to me, the engine light was on. He told me it was low on coolant, but I somehow doubt it. Anyone know what it could be?
I will be bringing it in for a clutch and spark plug update anyway, hopefully I'm not damaging the engine!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey Navybean! Welcome aboard. Who did you buy your car from? Did you check the oil? S2000 are notorious for lapping up the oil. Which light is it, because there is a "service needed" light which comes on based on the number of KM driven (It can be reset).

Man, I have so much to say! Are you aware of the Pacific Northwest club? We are very active with meetings in Vancouver on a very regular basis. We also are working on building a relationship with Westwood Honda. A bunch of the local owners are taking their S2000's to that dealership for service because there have been many dealership service "issues" in the Vancouver area. You really should meet up with a bunch of us and we can fill you in on what is happening.

I would call Kelly (he is the service manager at Westwood Honda) and tell him you are an s2ki.com member and explain your problem. See if he can get your car in right away, 'cause if it is the engine light and it isn't oil, then it could be really serious (or maybe just a sparkplug problem). In anycase, I wouldn't drive it until you talk to Kelly or another dealership.

Last thing, if you want to meet a whole bunch of the PNW S2000 owners, we are having a two-day trip down the Washington coast on August 3rd weekend. It'll be a fun time.

Sorry for the rambling reply, but you just seemed to pop up out of nowhere. Anyway, good to have you aboard and hopefully we can get together soon.
