Ever run out of gas in your S2k?
It pains me to say, Yes, I did. I have run consistently until there are no bars on the gauge and I still know that there are about 2 gallons sloshing around in there. Enough to get me along for a while... Well, that all changed when I made the switch to the K&N, iridium plugs and Mobil 1. *(All done at the same time, so not sure which is the culprit...) Well, one day on the way TO work, I dropped the last bar. OK, I figured, no worries, I've got a good 20-40 miles of fuel left. Well, I gambled that I could get back home later that night (which is about 12 miles from work). Sure enough, after about ten miles, the car started to sputter. No matter how easy I went on her, she refused to keep any reasonable pace, and finally died, leaving me on the shoulder of I-95 inconveniently between two exits. Rather than hike, I called AAA, who came out with a jerry jug of gas. Seems the guy couldn't get the nozzle on properly, so most of the gas spilled down the side of my car
and onto the highway. As it turns out, it was not enough to get her going again, sot he guy had to go get more gas and then come back. This time I helped him with the spout, got some fuel in her, and she started right up... Not a pleasant experience! Warning to all, beware the fuel gauge. Mine seems to jump all over the place...
And the next question is: Why the Hell did my fuel mileage drop? I guess more air flow makes her thirstier. BTW, I get between 200-220 miles of city driving. (When I ran out I was at 206.7) YES, I live in VTEC. ;-)

The moral of the story is to know your OWN gas gauge! This thing is so different from car to car that it's not even funny.
When I have zero bars, I have 3 full gallons left. Others have far less. There seems to be a very high degree of variation, so watch out!

I've never ran out of gas in any car, I'm way too paranoid for that, but I have seen "no bars" on the interstate close to home. The gas guage we have is very inconsistant, so I don't take any real chances. It used to be bad to drain your car dry of gas, not sure why or if it still holds true. It was even supposed to be bad to let it run close to "E" before each fill-up. The theory is that the detergents in the gas settle to the bottom of the tank and over time bond together. Once a big enough chunk breaks off and gets in your fuel line it can be very costly. Not sure if this is true or not, but I always fill up at 1/4 tank.

I've found the gas gauge to be reliable on the street, with about 1 1/2 gallons left when the fuel light comes on (with 1 bar, I think). It's very inaccurate on the track, and gets stuck. It showed 4bars at the Nelson Ledges track and the fuel light came on???? I pulled in immediately, loaded up the gear, and ran out of gas about 1-2 miles from the track. I coasted into a driveway and the guy in the house gave me a gallon. An angel. I gave him 20 bucks and made to the next gas station.
At the track the gauge resets when I turn the ignition off and then back on, and reads accurately what is left in the tank. Don't trust the reading when you're hurtling through the twisties.

Was up in the Sonora Ca. wanted to take hi 4 back though Stockton for all the curves. Well planed on getting gas in Sonora but went right past the last station an on to hi4. Two bars left 20 miles after last bar did still going! Was never so glad to see a station.
I ran out on I-5, 10 miles north of Everett WA in the middle of nowhere after driving with no bars for about 20 miles looking for the next gas station....
I walked about 1/2 mile to a farmhouse and the guy was kind enough to drive me to a local gas station and back (twice, as the jerry-can was too small to get enough fuel in the tank!) I offered him $20 for his time, but he refused...... Nice guy!
I learned my lesson here!!!

I haven't run out of gas and probably never will, since I usually fill up with 4 bars still showing. My car is like greg stevens. With no bars showing I still have about 3 gallons left in the tank. I was crusing the beach and when I came back, I had no bars on the gas guage. I filled it up and only got 10 gallons in the tank.
I thought it was really bad to leta fuel injection car run out of gas. Isn't there the possibility of getting air in the fuel line, or something like that???
