These cars shouldn't even be considered in the same breadth. The S2000 is a gem of a sports car while the Evolution is a hooked up Lancer. The S2000 is the thoroughbred while the Evolution is a tacky economy car on steroids. Any car manufacturer can take their cheapest econo-cars such as Corollas, Sentras, Civics, Lancers and make them into something like an EVO, while the S2000 is a lot more unique. The whole basis of the Lancer is "cheap crap". Look at the blue print... it's a Lancer/Mirage and will always be a Lancer no matter how big the spoiler is or how powerful the turbo is. The S2000 is designed specifically to be a masterful, outstanding machine. Sure, the Evolution is a great performer, however it is jus not very aesthetically pleasing and will ALWAYS be based on the cheapest Mitsubishi offering. How can anyone be passionate about a factory- modded Mitsu lancer?

And Honda is known to make a superior product than Mitsubishi. Whether its Car and Driver "10 Best" awards or JD Power & Associates "Best Premium Sports Car" award, the S2000 has always been an impressive automobile.

The S2000 is so much purer, so much more attractive, so much more fun to drive that it's simply not a good comparison. If you absolutely need four seats, get the Infiniti G35 Coupe or Mazdan RX8.
dude you drive a honda not a porsche and if you're really into performance, you'd know about WRC and know that evo isn't a plain jane lancer. i wonder what these guys would say about your pure honduh being a thoroughbred

Me and my wife currently own a 00 S2k and a 03 evo and I definitely would have to go with the evo over almost any car. I'm in the military and in the last four years I've owned the following:92 Accord LS, 98 Prelude, 02 Accord ex coupe v6, 01 prelude, 01 SS camaro, 04 srt-4, 93 FDTT, and now the cars we have now and out of all of those cars I wouldn't have anything over the evo. I've been a honda guy almost my whole life, but nothing could ever replace my evo. As for the Sti, I'm not gonna talk crap about that, b/c I would love to have one of those too. I don't see how sti owners can drink so much Haterade to where they talk bad about the evo. They are so close to the same car. I would take either one, but as far as looks for me, I would have to go with the evo. Just my opinion. Honda needs to just come out with a factory s2k with a turbo that runs about 320 hp stock and then let's talk.

I've considered trading my "S" for an EVO from time to time but check out Car&Drivers long term test. Go to Car&Driver.com and just put in a Mitsubishi search and you'll find it. These cars are very sketchy reliability wise. I've put 55k on my S2000 and have not spent one dime other than sheduled maintaintance. If you want a fast sedan get an STI.

Im willing to bet that the reason a stock evo handles better than a stock S2000 is those super sticky advan AO48 tires. My friend has a Evo RS and after 8 k had to replace those tires, so he cheaped it up and got a different tire. I think they were falken azenis. Anyways the handling was nowhere near as good as it was.

It really depends on what you want. If you want pure hp, then get the EVO. EVO has AWD and is more forgiving to drive. On the other hand, S2k is all about the driver. It rewards good driver, and punishes bad driver. If you want a car that offers PURE driving experience, then get the s2k. If you have to think twice, then s2k is probably not for you.

If performance is what you're after, get the evo. No doubt the evo beats the s2k in every performance category, speed, handling, modability, etc.
uh handling? hmmm.... tell that to the C4's that are being given a run for their money in A-stock. it's not the EVO they are looking for in their rear view....

Actually the evo handles better than the s. Evo can easily pull a .95g on the skidpad, the highest an S ever pulled is a low .91g. Even then, i'm sure the Evo can pull a higher skidpad than .95g. The evo MR pulls a .98g on the skidpad so i hardly say the s can match the evo or MR
The skidpad is hardly a way to determine what car can handle better. mag racing is dumb. mag statistics are used for generalizations at best.

Look at national championship level auto-x results for A-stock. The S2000 outperforms the EVO. With the best drivers in all cars, the EVO is nothing more than a mid-tier performer in such events. Same goes for low/mid speed road courses for both cars in stock form.

so you can mag race all you want, real world results and events don't lie. the S2000 has the ability to outhandle the EVO.
