Default F20C/F22C

I know a guy that is parting out his AP2 and I was wondering how many people have put a F22C head onto an F20C block. Are there any gains or benefits to doing this, and if so how significant are they? And also how many problems would that cause or is it pretty close to being bolt on.

The F22 camshafts have slightly different profiles, to better match the rev range and displacement. The valve retainers are updated a bit too, I think. Other than that, they're pretty much the same. I can't imagine why there'd be any gains by putting an F22 head on an F20 block.

For some reason, I thought that one of the AP1 cams would be a worthwhile upgrade for the AP2?

Im running a AP2 head on a AP1 block ( soon to be InlinePro ). Its pretty much bolt on.

The f22c exhaust cam has less duration and more lift. Good for bottom end grunt and spooling turbos. The f20c intake has more intake lift and duration.

Here are the numbers that have been posted:

Thanks for the replies, and the numbers. I didnt think that there would be much difference, it sounds like that would only be slightly beneficial if you were turbo.

LOL, I'd much rather put an F22C block under my F20C head.

red mx5, how's that project going? btw, exactly what is the reason that the F22C revs less? the increased stroke?

The stock injectors will only spray enough fuel for about 310 WHP, and I'm already very clost to 300, so I can't increase the displacement (with an F22C block) without going to larger injectors, and of course non OEM injectors won't work with the stock ECU. As a result, I won't even be seriously considering the mod until we've done a bit more with the original block. Even then, it's just something to do for a hoot, because I really don't need more power. LOL, I'm already having trouble behaving when I drive the car.

I could speculate regarding Honda's motives for lowering the cars redline, but that kind of thing often leads to arguments (and threads) that I want no part of, so I'm not going there. It is enough (for me, at least) to know that the F22C can turn 9k without any problem. Given that, I know I can make more power and torque with a hybrid, using the more aggressive F20C cams and the longer stroke F22C bottom end, and that's all I need to know. I think I do understand Honda's motives, but they're not popular among some S2000 owners, so I hope you don't mind me keeping my thinking on the matter to myself.
