This is the best thread on gears yet IMO, because it includes acceleration times. They seem accurate, just a couple tenths slower than actual times in the quarter mile.

BTW, just curious, how was wind drag modeled? 155 is pretty close to real life.
force due to drag is a function of some constant * drag coefficient * cross-sectional area * velocity squared.

basically effective wheel torque is converted to force on the pavement (due to friction b/w the tires and the pavement), and all i did is subract drag force from "wheel force" during the acceleration. when drag overcomes wheel force, max velocity is reached.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was an *indicated* 170, based on the speedometer reading rather than a RADAR gun or GPS, right?
It was speedo, which could be up to 3% off, I suppose. It was in PalenkosBro thread about the first time over 100. I'll see if I can find it.

are you sure i wouldn't be ap1 biased? haha i do control all the parameters
I did think that the AP2 shift times would be quicker given the better syncros, but we can wait until the numbers are up before we start flaming you

but i could just put a "worse" driver in the ap2

does anyone have a stock ap2 dyno? in fact, it would be nice to have a couple so i can average them.

also, the speedo does have a small percentage of error, and your actual vehicle speed relative to the ground is not easy to measure completely accurately. as RED MX5 pointed out, there are some losses associated with the tires, and i absolutely agree that these plots are not absolutely accurate. they're just models and simulations, but when i run them, i always run them for a comparison. this way you can see the "relative performance" for each of the setups.

This thread delivers.

Plot out all the commonly asked acceleration graphs, and sticky this sunova bish!

First of all, let me say. **** Matlab!

Nice man, going to school for ME and I have to deal with matlab a lot! Good work, are you using this for a project or just for fun?

haha yes! i'm sure everyone who's worked with matlab has had those moments.

and yeah, i was just doing it for fun aka bored at the research lab.
