Default Fl law and glass replacement

I have a cracked windshield, and need a replacement. Since I live in Fl it is covered by my insurance, but they are saying that they will not pay the price for an oem windshield, they will cover safelite glass and the $230 extra for oem glass would have to be out of pocket. The safelite people are swearing to me that safelite glass is indistinguishable from oem glass. Is this true? And can they ins company specify aftermarket glass and decide not to replace oem?

I am a Tech for Safelite and I can tell you that all glass is sufficient enough because they have to go by certain safety regulations and DOT laws. The glass is good, but I've had a few customers complain...Safelite is plenty for most cars, but on your s2000 I would ask for premium glass.

I'm not sure if the insurance company is saying "NO" to Dealer OEM glass or aftermarket OEM glass. Since insurance seems to have their mind made up, I would request for PPG or Pilkington glass....you'll be plenty happy. The only difference is you won't have the "Honda" logo on the window. Insurance should cover that, it is an after market OEM glass and on a sports car you want the best.

It's not always the quality of the glass, but the quality of the install. Our company has some of the best trained professionals this field has to offer. An s2000 is a simple car to change over and the job should come out immaculate.

Hope that helps!

call these people and confirm what is being said to you. they are greedy SOB's that will fook everyone they can. it sounds bogus to me. if you request oem glass, you should be entitled to it. as far as i know, the law says replace the glass, not replace the glass with wha they want.

i might be wrong, thats why i think you should call for the truth.
