The S is not that slow compared to a (stock/stockish) Evo. On anything other than a straight road, the S will hang with (lag behind then catchup in the corners) the Evo, or if in front, make it very difficult to pass. I am the loan S driver amongst a bunch of Evo/Sti drivers here. When we do the mountain road thing, they are shocked that I am always there with them. One guy with a fairly souped up Evo (so much so he believes he does not need a rear view mirror), when he saw the video of the run with me right in his arse said it was a good thing he had no mirror else he would have crashed his car trying to lose me

This is very true, as a buddy of mine gained ~60whp with about $1500 in modifications to his Evo (bolt-ons/reflash).

But on the upside, if the Rotrex supercharger kit turns out as dynos show, 375RWHP for $6500 is not terrible. It's a lot of money, but 200whp==>375whp is a ton of power, too. Granted you'll need a clutch and probably bust a differential, but that's still not bad.

Just a few comments for "Nine, the Pull-Out Guy." You are new in posting to this forum, and you need to develop the necessary thick skin
- to tolerate the occasionally warped, albeit usually good natured retorts which pass for humor here. You didn't mention where you are from, so it isn't clear if the Subie's all wheel drive vs. our S2000 RWD is an issue. In general, the S2000 owners from wintry climates make out all right as long as they use dedicated snow tires. Realistically, that means the modest additional investment of a couple of inexpensive steel wheels. Thoughts for consideration, not necessarily in order of importance:
- The mpg comparison is much in favor of our S2000 EPA 18/26 vs. 17/23 or so for the STI. I have in a previous life owned a VW Passat with 4Motion, and a Volvo S60R with AWD. You do pay a price in fuel economy, which may be a bit more significant what with the need for premium fuel, and crude reaching $100 per barrel. You do the math.
- Both cars are tire hogs. The S2000 goes through rear tires like crazy. 15,000 miles is excellent; 10,000 is probably more typical. Front tires go along with every second rear tire replacement. All AWD cars usually tend to need tire replacements 4 at a time, and respectably good tires get thrown out much of the time.
- Give the STI the lead hands down for straight line acceleration. Give the S2000 credit for an outstanding shifter, and for great go-kart-like handling.
- Noise is an issue. The S2000 is, quite frankly, extremely noisy. I personally don't even find the sounds aesthetically pleasing but I gladly tolerate the noise level. You need to decide for yourself if it is too annoying for daily usage.
- You also need to decide for yourself the adequacy of storage space. Not only is the trunk tiny, but there is an absence of substantial extra storage within the cabin. No glove box, and a couple of very tiny pockets in the doors, a special 'secret compartment,' and a pocket in the back of the passenger sseat, and that's about it.
- The audio system is not very good, and while there are some who put additional audio parts in the trunk to build the ear drum blasters so essential to the younger generation (refer to previous paragraph for reasons not to), the inherent engine noise level and the basic acoustics of the cabin are not compatible with good audio.
- All that said, I find that the S2000 makes even a simple errand a very exciting experience. I am old and retired, and it is great to find something that excites my cavernosa spongiosum (go check out my Latin) in a way that few things do these days.

Out of the two I say get the S. I have driven lots of STI's and I could not stand the seating position or the low rev limit . It felt like I was driving a brick with lots of HP and really did nothing for me, I tend to like the Evo more or even the New STI (though I haven't driven that yet) over the older models.

The S just feels sleeker and handles more like a go kart. Over time it will make you a better driver. Its really a different experience with the STI the car does alot of the driving for you, with the S you need to drive it and drive it well or you will end up asking yourself what happened (hopefully with little to no damage )?

What I find ironic about this post is that you want to instruct me of the ways of the forum however you failed to read any of my posts. Most of your post refers to topics that have already been addressed or I've already discussed.

I have the thick skin, my problem is with the thick heads.

as far as good things are, girls love it, you feel like you're in a real sports car, the car is more drivers car and it's fun to drive, handles amazing, rwd's are fun if you know what you're doing and mostly you get to enjoy the warm weather in the summer time. cruising in town with your top down is something that I could experience with my evo.

bad things are - it's slow. I mean, really really slow. Painfully slow. It might handle the corner better, but Evo was a lot more stable on the highway speed. you can't take this for a long trip or it'll make you mad. It's loud from the engine and VTEC isn't that much of anything if you're coming from an Evo or STI (modded). Even the modded s2k isn't that fast.

but if you've given up trying to beat everyone and just want to enjoy a good mtn runs and track days, this is a good car to have. And it wont make you look like a sissy like driving a Miata or solstice.
Thanks man, yeah I know the power is going to be the biggest thing I might miss. That is probably the only thing really sitting in the balance. The STi 0-30 is probably one of the quickest things on the street - the s2000 well um yeaah...

Yeah as you say am I done with beating everyone? Ahhahaa there is some sort of pride that goes with a fast car but the STi will never be a 1/4 mile car and I would never fool myself into thinking that but its nice to have some tq.

I think previous Evo owners and STi owners can really understand the switch that is involved to go to an s2000. I didn't really say Evo because that car comes with great handling and precise steering and much different feeling than the STi so I just left it out.
