Default free mod for interior...kinda cool!

OK i wear a bracelet on my right hand. I always rest my wrist close to the stereo when i drive. The result is scratches from the bracelet to the plastic piece that surrounds the shifter boot. One day i was waiting for my gf i had nothing to do and looked down at the scratches on the plastic. Some places had so much scratches that they combine and make one big scratch...and underneath that greyish paint on the plastic is a chrome-looking surface. And much more smoother. So...i took a coin and said what the heck...started spreading the spot like a plague. Ofcourse that was a bad idea since it scratched the chrome-color plastic, so days later i got some acetone (polish remover) with some paper towels i put acetone on the paper towel and wiped away the grey paint. Now it looks like i got chrome around the shifter boot. Doesn't really match anything else but the button on the handbrake but sure looks much better than before....So i bet out of i dont know how many s2000's in here there's gotta be some with scratches like that...well if that bugs you, hope this post helps...oh yeah and whenever i drive i switch my ring to my left hand to keep my shiftknob dent-free this is my third shiftknob...second S2000...a little more experience

yep I scratched up that plastic boot base myself with my leather jacket snap button. I'll fix it someday (probably the same day I remodel the bathroom, paint the house, and build that new garage I always wanted).

str8 6,

I have some scratches also...I might "polish" it someday.

I chipped my shift nob a while back with my ring. I sanded off the coat with fine sand paper and buffed it to a shine with a dremel.

You should polish one of your shift nobs to mach the boot base.

I too have scratched the shifter surrounds, but mine appears black under the gray top coat. Is the chrome under this black layer or are my scratches already too deep???

Mine started peeling away, although I do not wear a bracelet on my right wrist, so I have started the same thing. I will try to get it finished in a day or two and take some pics. I was going to have Honda replace it but I am thining that it might look better this way. I have only done a small part of it so far but I think it will look pretty good.

I was thining of taking it off to finish removing the layer of whetever it is and then maybe putting a clear coat on it to protect it.

Silver S2K Guy, I think your scratches aren't deep because if they were then you'd definitely see the chrome-color part, because that's how the plastic is before they paint dark-grey on top of it.
