Mine has been ziptied to my front grille since my car was new (8 years). I just trimmed a little of the plate off the top and bottom, then took a smal strip of black duct tape and covered the edges of the plate to prevent it from scratching my car. Ziptied to the front grille, I've never had a problem with it. Never been stopped, and it's never overheated.

zip tie it, get the ticket signed off, cut the zip tie.
,prepare for next ticket. Next time they will see that you already had a warning and likely will be less forgiving.

I hate my front plate, but I still run it because I don't want to give them any extra excuses to pull me over.

Slimline personalized plates, I used the OEM bracket off the factory license plate plastic holder, bent it to locate the screw hole central mounted, then drilled a new hole in my license plate (central). I have a zip tie thru each corner hole of the lp. I stuck 2 layers of sticky back rubber near the behind lower edge of the lp to stop rubbing and bring the lp out and vertical rather than slanted. Am able to the clip the clear lp protector over the lp.

I got my ticket for no front plate back in September (on 237). I have been running with this tow hook mounted plate holder since. I went front plate-less for 10+ years with my modded GS400 and was never stopped.

Works well for me. Easy to put on and take off and lot's of adjustment.
+1 for rhoplate. I didn't put the front plate on for any of my cars the past ten years and I prefer that my S2000 doesn't have it but I didn't want to risk having to pay the now-higher fine in California. I got the rhoplate a few weeks ago and it only took a few minutes to install. Some people don't like how it looks off-center but I'd rather have that than have the OEM mount scuff up the bumper.

Precisely why the OP got pulled over. At 2:30 am, the police are looking to get the drunks off the road. They used the missing plate to check him out. I'm all for making the streets safer, so I don't have a problem with what they did. That said, I run without a front plate, but am willing to man up and pay the fine if I'm caught.
