Whoa! That's both funny and sad at the same time. They are functionally identical but with slightly different layouts.

I don't really like digital gauges but they are part of what makes an S2000 an S2000. The digital tach itself is nice, but I'd like analogue for the rest.

This is a little off topic, but just to help clarify my understanding of the terms digital and analog - my understanding is that the S2000's speedometer is digital, but the tach is analog. Sure, there's no physical needle on it, but it's still a continuous bar (well, ok a discrete series of rectangles). It could be done without the use of an analog to digital converter (unlike the speedometer, which would require one) and therefore it's an analog tack.

Could someone who knows electronics more confirm this?

I'm just curious, since it's something I've been wondering about for some time.

from what i understand, digital and analog display differ in the signal that they receive. on the S tach, you said it best - a discrete series of rectangles - each bar is either on or off, meaning it is operated by digital signals. translating a digital signal to a display is a whole other process. for example, on the speedo, the process probably goes: digital sensor -> DAC -> analog signal -> ADC -> digital signal -> 7-segment display. i would imagine the process for the tach is similiar, but with a different display process.

The needle speedometer on my Nissan doesn't work, so no, I don't miss that when I drive the S.
