Just found out my 99 CR-V was way loose over what the Helm manual recommends for it. Like two whole turns of the nut! No wonder the car would never hit redline before shifting (automatic transmission).

this does not increase the idle speed, it takes out the slack so you get immediate throttle response. If the idle speed is higher, then the adjustment is too much and the throttle is actually part open. Keep in mind, this is an adjustment within optimal specifications according to honds, this isn't hot-rodding. The recommendation is to check the cable to see if it is out of adjustment, as many are from the factory....
EDIT - I think "extra jump" is misleading. you're not getting anything "extra" you're simply doing away with the delay in response cause by the take up of slack in the cable......

6600 miles and I had 1" of slack. I adjusted it to 3/8". Thanks for the heads-up. Btw, it was easy to loosen the locknut with a pair of pliers (no metric wrench available).
