Default Hardtop questions

Hey guys,
so I'm thinking about buying a hardtop, I got an early 2000 ap1 (yes, my vin is under 5730) and saw an ad for a hardtop off an ap2 complete with hardware. Assuming it is complete, what other components will I need to install the hardtop. More specifically, what parts will I need to install the hardtop and what items on top of that to make the defroster to work?
I did a search but nothign that really broke it down like this for me. Thread references will also be welcomed! Thanks guys in advance.

I have a 2002, my hard top came off a 2005. All i did was use their hardware. I believe all the hard top is the same.

For the defroster, you'll need the harness and directions on where to splice. Call Hardtop Guy for the harness and any special instructions.

For your model you will need addtional wiring and Switches to make the HT work on your car...

All the other hardware would be the same,... catchers, Latches so on and so on...

Ah, my main concern was if the hardtop will bolt directly on, the defroster thing I'm not too concerned about particularly because I really don't care where the switch is, I'll probably just wire it and leave it in the glove box.
I read that the side trim (where the gas release pull thingy is) needs to be updated to the newer ones, is that true? or is that just for the harness?

I would PM Jeff(hardtopguy). He has installed a couple of hardtops here. There are a couple of things to ask about. If you have an early MY00 you might need different stricker plates(I think that is what they are called). They are where the hold down hooks latch onto. There is hardware that needs to be replaced on the sides of the car, basically behind the seats.

Best bet is to get in touch with Jeff. He sells like 60% to 70% of the OEM tops in the country. Trust me you can literally do an install with his eyes closed.

You are correct. All of the plastic parts on the very early cars were heat welded together. In the later cars they were screwed together. So you will need the two side parts and brushes. They are fairly commonly FS in the FS forum. All years are the same not counting the reason you are buying them in the first place.

The hardtop will install without the trim pieces. The trim pieces are only necessary to keep leaves and stuff from dropping into the side openings when the hardtop is off the vehicle. The differences between the trim pieces are fairly minor and you could probably either do without them or modify them yourself.

If you want information on the defroster, send me your email address and I'll send you a write-up on how to install the defroster. You need some assembly skills if you want it to look/work like an '02 or later installation.
