Somebody mentioned this already, but it's the trick to heal toeing. Raise your right foot so that you are braking with your sole of your foot. LAbritt told me that, ever since then I can heal toe.

For me the easiest way to "heel and toe" is to actually brake with the left half of your foot, and bend your ankle to let the right side of your foot depress the gas pedal to a lower point than the brake pedal. After some practice you'll stop slamming the brakes when you rev and learn to keep them pretty constant with half of your foot while the other half is getting the revs up.

*Side note, anybody ever get into an automatic, drive it fairly agressively and slam the brake pedal down with your left foot thinking you need to change gears and it's the clutch? Yeah I've done that . If my girlfriend's seatbelt hadn't locked one time She definitely woulda had a nice mouthful of dash

I've done this too. Then my foot will slip off the brake pedal cuz its not so wide that it would be where the clutch would be.
I think heel-toeing difficulty also has to do with how people sit. I might think its easy because I sit back to the point where my legs have very little bend. So from that position, I guess it's easier to pivot your foot. But if you sit further up, I can see how it'd be harder to heel-toe, as you can't twist your foot as much.

a little off-topic

I didn't know that the brake lights work even without the key in the ignition.

... and thanks for the tip on heel/toe rajcat. Now I just need to practice.

I got a question for those of you don't do heel-toe. For instance, you were driving 50mph in 6th, and the car in front, 30 feet, of you slowed down to 20mph, what do you do?

Any emergency situation is not going to allow you to downshift.

Solution is to Clutch brake immediately. ABS should take it from there.

awww, dun get discouraged!
everyone can heel Toe!

now with 6 easy payments of $39.95 and Raj's Heel+Toe Instructional DVD's!!

but seriously
1 just start with ur Brake/gas foot, over the brake and straight up (lined up vertical)
i call this a "Base over Brake" (brake base. yes i made that up lol)

2 slide ur foot up about an inch, so that its no longer ur toes on the brake pedal,
but the ball of ur foot.

3 now, press the brake all the way in.
hold it there
and swivel ur knee in like ur trying to prevent sumone from kicking u in the balls
*the key to this is not letting the heel rest on the floor, just like when u use the clutch with ur other foot. (dun be lazy!)

4 practice that (hopefully while parked and in neutral for practice purposes) and see where ur heel is over the gas pedal
now, rock wif ur ankle, like u were gonna waddle from toe to ur heel, like a dance move.

5 u may have to hold ur heel down a lil further than ur used to for the first couple of times.
but if u do it right, u should get a slow rev! (cus ur a beginner lol)
*key to this is that the heel will only hit the gas when the brake is pressed enough so the is actually close enough to rock (blip) the gass

there! u did it! smile wide and kno u are now better than 90% of all the automatic driving ^&$#^$@%'s out there!

soo thatll be $99.99
will u be paying with check or credit card?
we also take money orders and cash!

DUN MAKE ME BREAK SUM KNEE CAPS!
"wheres muh muney? huh? wheres muh muney?
oh, got enough to buy cheep mustaches eh?!"
very nice. we need a how-to sticky on this one

The hardest trick is feel how fast you are going and know how much to blip. Too much or too little will upset the balance of the car and that defeats the purpose of heel-toe.

It varies a lot depending on speed and how much you want to gear down, but when you nail a perfect one, it is SO satisfying.
