For me the key is keeping my heel aligned with the throttle pedal.

If I then rotate my foot so the ball is on the brake, I can still reach the throttle with the right side of my foot. Keeping my heel on the floor helps my be more precise.

Now if I could just get smoother matching my revs while braking hard, down shifting, and settting up for turn entry ...

I bought a set of MomoCorse pedals because of that very reason. They are much wider and thus the gas and brake are much closer enabling rather easy heel and toe. A bonus is that the red and aluminum design goes nicely with the interior of my car.

lvs2k,

Thanks.

I don't pay much attention to "Bubba goes left" racing.

I am truly overwhelmed with the helpful respones from all of you. I had always considered this movement second nature in all the cars I have owned and driven all these years (Porsche 356, various Mustangs, Datsun 510 etc etc blah blah) but I suppose I just need some more practice. I will try versions of both #1 and #2 as described above. And yes shoe selection makes a difference, I guess it will be more difficult when wearing dress shoes as I usually wear at work.
As for Ricky Rudd, he is far from "Bubba goes left" as he is one of NASCAR's more successful road racers, there S2KRob, and his "footcam" shots at Sears Point are close enough to ballet for my taste. Thanks to lvs2k for the accurate historical persective on my favorite NASCAR guy. I am of the opinion that there is no bad racing, I enjoy almost everything from World of Outlaws to Formula One.

Size 9 1/2, no problems what-so-ever H&T'ing.

I do it routinely everytime I downshift while braking. It just becomes 2nd nature after a while.

I always use method 1) described above.
