Help! Paint is falling off from center console
Guys, I just noticied not too long ago that the paint from the part marked on the picture is falling off, I went to the dealer and I was quoted over 200 dollars, dealers do not sell that part alone, they sell the whole center console.
What should I do?

go look up dash kits I think it was ricks or somewhere that had them pretty cheap and you didnt have to buy the full kit....you could buy half. I think a dash kit is under 200 and you could cover it up. Just my 2 cents.
If you want, take some acetone or paint thinner on a cotton ball and rub the paint off. Underneath is a nice shiny metal finish. It looks nice and it doesn't flake off. Just don't use a grinder or anything on it. It's really metal coated plastic, so the layer is not that thick.
BTW, if you buy a replacement, don't get it from your local dealer, they will rip you a new one. Go to hardtopguy.com or call him up for a good deal.

Pop it off and repaint it yourself?
The '04 we recently acquired had the paint worn off on the plastic covers attached to the back of the head rests from where the previous driver / passengers had driven around with the the seats reclined into the roll-over bars.
I popped them off, sanded, and refinished them in about 1 hour using auto touch-up paint / clear-coat. Admittedly, they aren't subject to much contact on a routine basis as the trim piece on your console, but clear-coat can be pretty durable.
Obvisouly, a body/paint shop could also do them for you and achieve excellent results.

if you do remove the finish with alcohol or acetone, just make sure you have a 2000-2001 s2000 center console. after paint removal and these MY's consoles, you'll get an aluminum type finish. if yours is a 02-03, be warned - instead of the aluminum finish, it's just plain ole black plastic.
do a search, im sure you'll find at least a dozen pictures of owners who've removed the paint.

I can see the metal finish under the paint, so I will try to remove the paint completely. I'm the second owner of the car, I don't think the dealer is going to replace the center console for free
The picture I posted is just an example to show where the paint is falling off, mine looks very bad
