If you're catching wheel going into 2nd and 3rd you're probably shifting fast enough to also burn your clutch.

Excuse my ignorance -but how does that work? Do you mean getting off the clutch to fast?

High engine rpms will put more stress on the clutch disc, so if your disk is already old or glazed, it will inhibit its grabbing and you will get slip, which in turn can smell.

I would a - drive at 8800 rpms for 30 sec, then stop and see what you smell. Then, do a power-shifting accel, up to redline, and see what you smell.

Without trying that, I can tell you that if I'm in the high rev range for a brief period, say 15-30seconds, I can smell the clutch.... Does that mean the clutch is slipping?

It doesn't feel like its slipping under normal conditions.

P.S. The smell isn't the same as the clutch smell.

Good point!

LOL, it's impossible to diagnose smells via the internet.
