After over a week of use the Homelink is perfect. There is no loss of memory with the switched power source.

FYI,

I checked the Homelink on my 1999 Lexus GS400, and it works without the key in the ignition. My Homelink system is one of the newer types that supports rolling codes.

I guess some car manufacturers decide to have constant power to their Homelink systems while others (like Audi) do not.

2Scars, I'm glad to see that it's working fine after a week of use.

I agree, but it makes more sense to have the unit switched to the ignition for security reasons.
