I recently purchased Hondacare for my 02. Got a great deal from hardtopguy.com. My car had 23000 miles, dealer offered 7yr/75K/$0 ded for $1200, HT Guy offered the same for $935.
Not trying to scare you or anything but unless HT Guy works for a honda dealer, he cannot offer you a genuwine Honda extended service contract. (Honda Care). He can only offer you after market warranties that he would claim are simular, but is far from that. I have heard more than enough nightmare stories from those who paid for those warranties that got little to no coverage at all. For the extra couple hundred dollars more, please buy yourself a piece of mind.

does the honda care only cover major equipment repairs, ie. engine, diff, tranny? or does it cover bumper to bumper for the whole car for the duration of the warranty? it's not a bad deal if it covers bumper to bumper for 7yrs/100k miles.... it's nice piece of mind to have the extra coverage after the factory warranty runs out....

also who administers the warranty? the honda dealer or any "authorized" shop?

HondaCare coveres more than just Powertrain, but less than full factory comprehensive. Certain things are excluded such as the softop, interior, and wear items. It does cover other high-fail items, however, like the A/C unit and all its parts, electronics, and sensors.

Jeff A.K.A. HARDTOP GUY sells it through the dealership he works for.

Gantely Honda in Ohio.

So he has nothing to be worried about.

It is a genuine Honda Care Extended Warranty from Honda.

Now you've got me thinking.

My local dealer sales-guy was obviously trying to hook me on something other than HondaCare, and I have very little interest in getting stuck with something else.

I'm not planning on modding my car, and, with only 8000 miles on a 2002, a 7yr/75k for under a grand would bring a lot of piece of mind with some of the horror stories of transmission replacement that I am hearing.

Percentage-wise, how many people have trouble with the tranny in this car? Everyone? Most everyone? Four of you? I'm not hard-launching my car, but I'm definitely enjoying getting the tail out a bit on occasion... One could say that I am not driving it like an Accord.

And here I thought I had my mind all made up...

my .10,
I bought a honda certified MY01 S2k with 26K on the clock. I usually do not buy used sports cars (used cars in general), but since it was "Honda certified" I thought "its like new" nevertheless being the good son I am, my father recommended that I bought the extended warranty just in case, why not.

I can say this only through observation - It all depends on your service advisor, the Service manager and the dealership you bring your car to.

I only bring my car to Earnhardt Honda in Avondale, AZ, just b/c they recognize that the S2K is Honda's sports car, one and only, and they treat the owners with respect(above and beyond regular honda owners). just take a gander Comments.

At 30K miles I had my Soft top replaced to "unusual wearing" (we all know that its BS and Honda needs to fix it) and at 45K miles I had my Tranny overhauled, all under the extended warranty. Now I never track my car, I never burnout (why try? we have beans for torque) but I do enjoy a spirited drive once in a while. Hondacare wanted to contest the tranny overhaul saying driver abuse, but the mechanic and service advisor, Lori Frost, knew that I didn't abuse the car (tracking) and came to my defense and Hondacare authorized the overhaul.

and yes if you mod your car they will try to blame it on that.

I bought the 7 year package from HT guy and I am glad I did. I will not mod the car and I drive 5-6k a year. I plan on owning this car for 7 years or until the last S2000 is produced.

I had an extended warranty on my 1995 M3 that saved me a lot of money. After the extended warranty expired within a year I put $ 3000 into the car.

I know Honda is different from BMW but remember this is not an Accord. The S2000 is a precise machine.

Now for 2 other reasons I bought it.

1). You can cancel for a prorated refund. If I change my mind I am not out everything.

2). Assuming I sell the car while it is under the 7 year warranty I will have a big advantage over my competition that does not have a warranty.

I do not have a mechanical bone in my body. If I am a buyer and see two cars that interest me I will buy the car with some warranty.

It was presented to me as an "extended warranty" by the sales manager when we bought the car. I could see this turning into a federal class-action lawsuit.
it was pitched to me as an "extended warranty" too
