Which Mitsuwa did you go to??? There's one in Torrance that I can check out, if you didn't go there.

TrojanHorse,

THANKS AGAIN. It arrived this AM and it's better than expected.

For those interested here is my report:

I would describe it as a soft bound book, not a magazine. It's the same construction as Daniel Carney's book except it is twice as tall. Thus it has magazine sizing, approx. 8-3/4 by 11-1/2". It has a glossy removable dust cover with the photo shown had the start of this thread. The pages are high quality glossy paper.

The only English is shown on the cover, everything else except for some competition sports car names are in Japanese. Damn. It has a lot of background development stuff with interviews of the major players and group photos as well. I'm sure it would be a great read. Lots of stuff on the 'S' car history.

There are a lot more photo's than in Carney's book and some wonderful full page photos in my favoriate color combo. Photos of the 'coming out' stuff in Europe, etc. Some of the same line drawings and photos appear in both Carney's book and the CG book, however they vary in size, small in one and large in the other, vary in color, B&W in one and color in the other, etc. But CG clearly wins the photo contest.

I especially enjoy the Production Line photos (2-pages) that I was drooling over. With a magnifying glass I'm able to read the Vin # on one the cars. I would guess they are all JDM cars since the book was published in May 1999 (My quess as well). Here's what it says on the Line card:

XS2A 00 L2
A 0323 00003
API - T000212

So, to me it looks like it's #212 headed for the Japanese market. The car is red.

I was also struck by all the cars they benchmarked with or CG compared to. There are scatter graphs of the cars but I have no idea on what subject. The cars mentioned include Miata, Z3, Boxster, Renault Spider, Alfa Romeo Spider, Fiat Barchetta, Lotus Elise, MG F and others.

Like TrojanHorse stated, the binding makes it difficult to scan. I tried folding back the cover/pages and the front pages started to tear. I will still see if I can get some scans in of the assembly line and hopefully enlarge them and post.

I really appreciate the book and especially appreciate that TrojanHorse passed the book on at his costs. Real class.

I don't know if this will help anyone looking but the book came inside a sales bag marked Asahiya Bookstores with Los Angeles, Chicago, and NY listed underneither.
