Default Horrible accident

Hi,

last week I had the biggest scare of my life.

I was driving in town on a 70KMH two-lane road with a number of trafficlights. There was an '90 Opel Vectra behind me. He was so close I could hardly see his lights.
It was quite busy so I couldn't go any faster at all.
At the last trafficlights we were behind each other. I decided to drive away full throttle to get away from this guy. After that I settled for 6th gear and was doing about 90KMH Yeah still too fast, but everybody drives too fast overthere. Suddenly the Vectra passed me on the right side (highly forbidden in the Netherlands) and tried to cut me off. But he went left a bit too fast and his left rearwheel touched my right frontwheel. I thought WTF? I had to brake quite hard. He lost control and crashed his car 100 meters further against a tree. The car was completely destroyed and so was he (he's dead).
The bad thing is that all witnesses drove on, so police has to accept my explanation which the technical Police could verify positively.
PLease drive careful, there are some idiots on the roads. My car is not severely damaged, the fender has a small dent and a bit of paint is off the bumber. Further the paint of the rim is scratched. Next week my S2000 will be repaired again.

I can't begin to say how happy I am that you made it out of that incident safely.

Ya know [to all members] at 36 years of age, I came to recognize just a wee few years ago that there are some fools that its just better off pulling over and letting them pass. Now I realize that goes against all conventions of VTEC and 9K RPM redline capabilites, etc...but the fact of the matter is, pulling over allows you to get home safely. Always allow yourself the sanity to know when "enough is enough" and just pull over. [w1ngman steps down from the pulpit now...]

Again, Ronald, glad you made it out soooo well!

OMG!

I think that would have been a very sobering experience for me, although you weren't doing anything wrong. There's a message here about road rage, but I don't think that the guilty party will be telling it anytime soon.

Ronald, I hope you get your car back soon, and that sucks!

Holy cow, Ronald! Glad you escaped unscathed!

w1ingman is right on. When an idiot wants to be an idiot, it's often best to get out of their way and not them involve you in their idiocy.

Watch out for idiots/a-holes/morons...they are everywhere!

Phew, glad to hear that you aren't hurt!
It wasn't even remotely your fault after all.
I hate what the guy who caused the accident did.
May he rest in peace anyway.
This behaviour kills a lot of people in Germany.

Glad to hear that you are ok - it's unfortunate that things like this are what makes us think twice about our own behaviour.

I take my hat off to you for having your head on your shoulders and not "racing" with the guy.

Oh, that it unbelievable. I am sorry to hear about that. I bet you are very shaken up. This one illustration of where patience would have actually saved a life. I wonder what he was in such a hurry for.

Thanks girl & guys,

yes I was pretty shaken up, he could have taken me with him on the eternal journey. I'm alright now. I think he wanted to prove he could be faster. He wasn't wearing his seatbelts. At first I thought it was a young guy in his early 20's later I found out he was 45, and left a wife and a 14 yr girl.
His wife (according to police) wasn't extremely surprised. Apparently he was a real 'racer'. Police told me they were happy that it happened this way. They said it was often that the racer survived this type of situation killing the other.

Wow...what an insane incident. It shocks me that a 45-yr old sober person would drive like such a punk. This type of thing brings me back to the reality that the guy we decide to drag race in the lane over, old or young...M3 or 1980 lebaron, hasn't the slightest clue what he's doing, and we should all automatically assume this just as you did.
