The same thing happened to me a couple of week's ago! I brought mine in to have a panel replaced under the dash that had broken. I was outside looking at car's on the lot when I looked and saw my car being driven onto a side street beside the dealership. Then I heard the guy GET ON IT! I confronted him and asked him if he drives the crap out of everybody's car. He told me he was test driving it to listen for a rattle. Yea right! Needless to say, I will not be back to that dealership. Luckily, there is another one in town that I will have to try. I will instruct them NO TEST DRIVES without me in the car.

That's good advice, Pat. I'll use that myself in the future. Thanx!

The issue of abuse is present, if the engine was not warm enough to VTEC safely. That is something we are all careful about.

If the mechanic were testing anything other than the brakes, without the permission of the owner, I would have a problem with that, as well.

Drop Tha Top- I think you should tell the dealership the truth. That you are going to post the story, with their name, and the mechanics name, onto S2KI. Then other S2000 owners can decide for themselves, whether they want to trust that dealership with their cars. -Just make sure your facts are accurate, other wise you may be the one that ends up looking bad.

Be sure and report them to American Honda, too. Dealerships hate that.

Please don't let them get away with abusing your S2000!

Mine may be next!!

-Pete

OK, well I would probably be a little upset that the tech was driving my car harder than needed. But as long as he wasn't dogging the clutch, and he wasn't grinding the gears, then he wasn't ABUSING the car!
If VTEC is abuse, then I am an S2000 MOLESTER.

BAAAAAHHHAAHHHAAAA....damcgee...to funny...seriously though there is a difference between what happened here which we still don't know all of it and what people perceive as to the intent of the Tech. I am not sure "GET ON IT"defines beating the crap out of the car because if that is the case then most people here are guilty.

I live by a dealership that sells cars 3 to 4 times the cost of an S2000 and I have a friend that is a tech there and believe me they go out and flog cars every once in a while to make sure they perform up to there standards. There customers expect there cars to perform that is why they get paid like they do. They don't have customers that needed to be there for a test drive or complain how there car was driven while it was there all they want is the car back running like it is suppose to.

SanMarinoCpe- The way I see it, if my car is going to be driven hard, it's going to be done by ME, not some punk that can't afford the car and wants to see what it will do!

I don't believe he would have been able to hear a rattle through all of the engine noise.

The Service MGR. did offer me a free detail and oil change-BIG WHOOP! Like I would let them drive the crap out of my car again.

If I had the money to buy a car that cost 3 to 4 times the S, I probably would'nt care how the car is driven.

bottom line. after having the brakes done, the engine was v-tecd while cold. That's abuse.

Call it insurance. That guy revved your engine while it was cold. If you ever have engine trouble, you'll know where to point the finger.

If I bought a car that costs 3 or 4 times what the S2000 costs, I would care 9 times as much to 16 times as much if someone abused it. I have no doubt about that.

I'd be upset too, only because it would be my personal car that they are revving the engine. To hell with VTEC or the fact that it's an S2000. I'd be pissed if they revved the Pilot without just cause.
