I figure, if the engine was not meant to be rev'ed to 8K, it wouldn't go to 8K.

I VTEC all the time. That's what it's there for. I'm definitly a "got it? then use it" kinda guy with all my stuff.

As a former motorcycle road racer with experience with high reving engines I understand the difference between "driving hard" and "being hard on equipment" .

With that stated: As my wife as told me that this toy had better last me a while. I have the benefit of commuting in Washington, DC traffic. :-( That explains why I have almost 20 K on the original S02's. It is hard to burn them up at an average speed of about 20 MPH (or less). :-(

I have (almost) allways allowed a one thousand RPM safety zone from the red line on my vehicles. I think that this is one of the reasons that we got 253,496 miles from our 1986 Civic Si before it died with out ever having had the top end off. :-)

I traded my EVO for an S2000 for a reason. I don't "beat" on my S2000, but I do drive it hard when the road opens up and there are no cars around. If you like to drive under 6000, this car is weak.

I recently took a friend out for a ride in my S. I showed them what it could do, then asked if they would like to drive. The first thing they said was, "Well, I'm not going to drive it like you! I am going to drive it like it was my own car and I was going to take care of it!" Now, I did nothing to beat on the car, but to the average person, downshifting into the corner, no brakes, and powering out at breakneck speed is beating on your car. So, I responded with, "Hey, I wouldn't have bought this car if I wasn't planning on using it for what it was built to do!"
They had no argument. I will be taking my car to the track (not the drags!) soon - which is what the S2000 lives for! Where else can you experience what it can do without getting ticketed!

Don't worry about how I beat my car. I conduct all my own repairs and will not be selling it.

I prefer the saying "drive it like you hate it or you will never love it" and that is what I have been doing with mine since I bought it.
I VTEC daily (she is my daily driver) just below redline, drifts yes, burnouts or clutch dumps no. Changing oil @ 7500 mile intervals as per manual and she likes it.

Yes it is nearly 100% highway driving with some sporadic city jaunts.
I am convinced that my changing the oil at the manufacturer recommended oil change interval "normal schedule" is appropriate for the conditions in which I drive. I have experienced no adverse effects whatsoever by going with the 7500 mile oil change interval (I did however change a little early as my work schedule would not permit changing later or I would exceed the 7500 mile limit....I changed at 6933 miles.) I believe that by waiting to change the oil until I reached this mileage leaving in the factory fill "break-in oil" I was able to correctly break in my engine (valves, bearings, rings..etc) I will be switching to either Amsoil or Redline synthetic oil at the next oil change at 14000 miles. I have regular 10W-30 Valvoline Dino oil in right now.
