how to make s2k into drag demon?
nastinupe1,
I agree with you. All three of those reasons you listed could have been at the top of his list and yours. I am, however, intrigued that on two test drives you could not assertain that 0-60 or 1/4 were not strong suits of the S. I got that from one test drive and one magazine article.
Is driving an Accord really all that bad on a day to day basis? To me, that's one of the perks. It's a challenger to exotics when you wind it up, but easy as an Accord around town. Sounds like a pretty good combo to me.
Anyway, I hope that I did not come across as passing judgement on the goal of fast 1/4 mile from a 4-banger. That was not my intention. My intention was to lay out whatever information seemed to pertain to the goal...as well as alternate routes of achieving the same goal....

Maybe he liked the fact that the car was #1 a Honda #2 a convertible and #3 rare and beautiful. That's what attracted me to the car. I am happy with my purchase, no need to lament here, however, I was expecting the car to have more pickup at lower speeds. A big difference between the S and Mustangs and Camaros is that the two domestic cars have that low end torque that the S doesn't, but the S catches up after it get's going. The problem with this is the fact that many every day drivers experience more 0-60 speeds than 60-100, so the beauty of the S can not be taken advantage of in normal everyday conditions. When I am on the freeway, I feel like I am driving a sports car, but when I am not, I feel like I am driving an Accord.
This is exactly why I brought up the "brand loyalty" in my previous post. Why waste your money and effort in this Honda when your heart is at straight line acceleration? So you like your "sportscar" to be also a convetible, huh? Why would any engineer with a right mind choose a convertible as the platform for a "drag demon?" #1 you need to beef up the chassis for stiffness (i.e. significantly higher weight than a coupe version). #2 soft tops are notoriously draggy (pretty bad when top's up but really, really bad when your top's down).
It sounds like you don't appreciate all the behind-the-scene engineering process by Honda in fine-tuning the suspensions, choosing gripy tires, placing the engine behind of front axle for optimum weight balance, arguably the best 6-speed transmission ever built and all that with the Honda reliability you can expect from a Civic or Accord.
The only point that I agree with you is that S2000 is a darn beautiful car. I can only speculate but you may have indeed thought about all this logically once before but your thought may have been "clouded" as soon as you saw the sexy lines of S2000 for the first time. Trust me, I understand
. But I still say, you wanna go fast, buy a fast car who cares if it looks like a sneaker or V8?! It's fast, it gets the job done, right? On the other hand, like Brantshali said, if GOING there IS your ultimate goal and you've got the means...I can only applaud you for your bravery to go against the wind

The WRX tranny is plastic.
If you want to go fast on the 1/4 get a supra or viper!
Remember there are no 10's S2000 out there..well at least I have not heard of one yet..mabye in 2 years, but I did hear that the Pink S in FF2 does 9's easy
I don't want a dragster. I don't consider the Z350 a dragster, but I like it's engine. I just don't like the car. In fact, if you read threads about what many folks desire in the S's engine, ironically, it is usually close to the Z350's engine specs: 287 hp and 2?? torque.
Some food for thought. Many friends of mine who spent years tweaking their cars to lose a tenth in the 1/4 have found the joy of open track motoring and haven't looked back. May I suggest you spent a day or two at your local track and perhaps you will discover, long before you invest thousands, that the most fun you can have in this car isn't going 12.5 seconds ANYWHERE, rather the thrill of looking in your rearview and seeing your competition. If not that scenario, then perhaps you would be surprised at how thrilling 1:42:4 (for instance) might look on a timeslip, especially when your friends are looking at their 1:50's.

I understand if you want to build up an import. But there are even better import choices than the S2K. The WRX, the AWD turbo eclipse, the SR20DET powered nissan 240, mkiv supra, upcoming EVO. All these cars have a small 4 cylinder and can be made fast. These cars fulfill your "minimal work" requirement. The S2000 does not, too many weak parts to replace once you start making more than stock power, these other cars can take it out the box.
