Had I had mine during highschool, I would have crashed it. I rocked an '85 Chevy S10 2.5L through HS.. don't let anybody tell you that you can't have fun with 92hp
I bought mine (after saving my pennies for years...) at 22.

But yea, it's awesome having an S2000 in high school. Just makes me think if I can get this car at this age, what will I get at age 40? I can only imagine.
The truth is you can probably afford a better car during high school working minimum wage 20 hrs a week than your first 1 year out on your own with a new career.
Suddenly paying for "everything" truly means everything (i.e. car payments, gas, insurance, rent, utilities, food, furniture, saving up for house/car, etc...) and not just gas and insurance like when living with parents.

Different times, different values, different culture.
When I was a kid, think 1960's, we had to work to make money for anything we wanted because the parents were working just to keep the mortgage paid and food on the table. I had a car before I was 16 because once I turned 16 I needed it to drive to work because I grew up in the country.
For me, working during high school taught me how to manage my time because I had to do good in school, and then in college this time management skill was critical so I could be on dean's list and work 20 to 30 hours per week. And that motivation is what eventually paid off and put me in a good job.
I hold nothing against kids who get handouts from parents, I just wonder if in reality the parent is not doing a disservice, because eventually all kids will come to learn, if you want something out of life, you got to work at it, and chances are good, you are going to have to work damn hard at it...

this is how i see it.
1)not everyones maturity level is the same who cares if a high schooler has the car or not. Just because YOU dont think that you are able to handle a rwd sportscar as a highschooler doesnt mean that the next one wont be able to (remember someones super spicy is anothers mild)
2) If they do chances are their parents are helping in some way, and if you are a parent you know that little rule about having a good time watching your child have fun. I never use to understand this unitl my little brother learned to ride a motorcycle.
3) Parents genearlly want the best for their kids. (hence college etc.) so if they have the extra cash then they will do it. dont be mad because you are older and grew up when times were a little tougher, yes money flows easier now generally because both parents are working. which equals double the income.
4) Who cares you have the car and so does the other guy. thats what it is all about the car, which brings us the community together, so everyone pull up your pampers and get over it.

Another HS kid that thinks hes invincible, no one is invincible and who say you will get a high end car once you're 40. You'll probably end up with some gold digger that divorce you and take half your shit. You don't know what will happen in the future so don't get too cocky when you're only 18.
I in no way believe I am invincible, I haven't been in any major accidents and the reason for that is because my car is just for show. I'm not some punk high schooler who totals his cars, sorry bud.
P.S. don't try and act like you know me, tough guy. "gonna end up with a golddigger" and what not. Grow up. I'm tired of people hating on high schoolers having S2000s. I reacted sarcastically to the previous poster because of his blantantly absurd post.
-ANYWAYS... Take it easy, drive safe!
